  • Giving up coffee giving me headaches

I have a coffee machine that grinds beans and brews lovely fresh coffee and now I have to give it up!
I have gone from 3 to 2 cups a day and am now also reducing the cup size to half a cup. If I go further than this and have no coffee in the afternoon I get a headache that wont be treated and interferes with looking after the family. Also when I get such a headache I eat more to keep me going until bedtime-and who needs that!
    Any tips?
Also what are your experiences with white tea? I dont drink peppermint and find cammomile etc so dull. Some suggest carob, but carob is high in oxalates and shouldnt i avoid that?

    Rooibus - African red tea

I haven't had white tea but LOVE some of the rooibus (African red tea) that they sell on here and is IC friendly. I have about 5 different kinds in my cupboard, I drink about about 3 or 4 cups a day.

Also, I hear you on the coffee! Have you tried the low acid coffees? Much easier on the bladder. I currently mix caff and decaf low acid so that I can have a couple big mugs every morning.

I looked up my brand of coffee bean on the web but there is no info there.
It is medaglia d'oro italian blend.

I can have one cup of low acid coffee every morning --- it isn't decaf, but very low acid. I get the low acid coffee beans at Trader Joes.

          Headaches

Oh that always would happen to me when I would quit coffee. I'd get a headache for three days. I think it's fairly common. Not fun though. It does take some time. My husband still drinks coffee and I love the smell of it. I've been on the diet over a year and a half. So plese be assured it gets easier.

It is hard to give things up when you start. It does get easier in time. I drink peppermint tea with honey and milk in it. I also drink hot water with milk in it. Plus, I love Pero which is close to coffee for me. It takes some getting used to, but I like it. I'm afraid to try the low acid coffees.

I know it's hard, but worth it to have no pain. One thing about it--you can get really excited when you find something you can have.

Have you tried to use Javacid or coffee tamer in your coffee. That will take out some of the acid. Or you can even try teecinno coffee and mix your caffinated coffee with this USDA organic caffiene free coffee for couple of days and by pass the headache. It taste a lot like coffee too..

When I gave up the caffeine I had a terrible caffeine withdrawal headache that lasted 3 days. Someone here mentioned taking a small amount of excedrine migraine to help the headache (because it has a little caffeine in it), wish I had thought of that, it probably would have helped.

I finally made it past the headache but then discovered I hated how I felt without that caffeine in the morning. I read somewhere that caffeine gives women a sense of euphoria and I wouldn't say I'm euphoric with it lol but definitely more up and happy with that little bit every morning. I went back to coffee but switched to low acid (puroast) and half caf.

                Bookbeetle,

I have my coffee in the morning with about 1/4 of it being whole milk. No Sugar. This way it is out of my system by night time, when I am subject to flares.

I found that most coffees were too harsh for me (even before I had bladder problems) especially coffee beans that you grind yourself. The one best and only coffee I will drink is the Costco brand Kirkland ground coffee in the brown three pound can. I brew it in a DeLonghi drip coffee maker.

I don't think I could live without coffee in the morning. Coffee later in the day will cause a flare, but a cup or two of coffee with milk in the morning is all I need.

Before diagnosis, I drank 4-5 Diet Coke's and the same amount of coffee every day. Insane amounts of caffeine. Whenever I'd try to even cut back I'd get the awful caffeine headache and couldn't do it. Kind of worked out for me that when I was diagnosed, I was in SEVERE pelvic floor pain, and my doctor had no problems prescribing Vicoden for me. So, Vicoden takes away the caffeine headache, and it was really easy to get it out of my body without pain, LOL. I guess not everyone can get Vicoden to get rid of caffeine headaches, huh. I really don't miss it now at all, actually. I feel much healthier without all those chemicals in me.
