Some ICers can have a little bit of chocolate. I can have a very small piece occasionally if I haven't had any other possible irritant. I have read that it's acidic, in addition to the caffeine. Most of us can have white chocolate.

I know that chocolate is definitely a no no for a lot of people with IC. Looking back over my life I've known for a long time that chocolate gave me pain but denied it until I was diagnosed with IC. When I was younger I would even tell my dad (director of a pharmacy in hospital) that I thought I was allergic to chocolate, but neither of us had ever heard of that, so I fooled myself into thinking it was something else.
Now I'm wondering what exactly is it in chocolate that causes us a lot of pain? Is it just the caffeine? Is it also really acidic or something? Is there any hope of ever being able to have chocolate chocolate again? Does milk or dark make a difference for anyone?
