  • curious on whats best

I'm not sure if this is where I should be posting this, but I am going to the store tomorrow to buy some things and I was wondering what bath soaps and what all I should consider purchasing. I was just diagnosed with IC so I am new to all of this. I noticed tonight when I took a hot bath that I am now hurting probably because of the bath soap or something, but not real sure. I am going to try and order some the books and items from the icn shop, but for right now I need help figuring this out.
When it comes to food is organic the best choice? What about juices I know my list says blueberry and pear, but is there a certain brand that is better? Oh what about cereals? And meats?

Any suggestions would be great. If anyone has any good meal ideas if you don't mind sending them to me that would be greatly appreciated too.

currently taking Elmiron 100mg 3x daily
currently taking Klonipin 1mg as needed for nerves and stress
currently taking Ditropan XL 10mg (Oxbutynin ER) once a day for ugency and frequency.

trying Aloe Vera Juice just a little mixed with water

I am on my 3rd uro. The 1st I went to cause of an UTI it was clear in the culture by the next month, but I was still having issues so he continued me on macordantin (sp.) and urised for about a year and I just seemed to get worse. My 2nd uro said he thought I had an OAB and tried me on meds for that. Everytime I went to him he would dialate my uretha and he also did a hydro (streched my bladder) and supposely removed scar tissue from my bladder and urethea and said my bladder was inflammed. But he said I didn't have enought pain to have IC. I tried many OAB meds and nothing seems to help I was in the bathroom atleast once an hour if not more. I suffered for a while. Now I am on my 3rd uro. The 1st visit we talked and he instantly said I had IC. He checked me and did an ultrasound of my bladder and order a cat scan and put me on Elmiron. I am currently waiting for the results of the cat scan.

A little about me that doesn't have to do with this is I am a stay at home mother of two kids and I have a very loving and supportive husband.

A lot of ICers use Dove soap. I use Neutrogena.

The best advice I can think of for food and drinks is to read labels. If you have a Trader Joe's in your area, they have an IC safe blueberry juice --- lots of folks here buy pear juice in the baby food aisle.

    Warm hugs,

      curious about what's best

As Donna said, I use Dove. It's very gentle.
I was wondering if you're putting any kind of bath soaps or bubble bath into the tub. If you are, maybe those are irritatitng. I take warm baths with a litte baking soda in them. Very soothing.
Again, as Donna said, Trader Joe's is great for meats and juices. I buy their cooked, sliced turkey breast which is great for quick dinners and I also buy their steaks. Hormel also makes preservative free roast beef that's very good. It's in most grocery stores. Whole foods deli sells presrvative free, nitrite free deli meats.
I also buy canned salmon at TJ's. They have one that has no preservatives in it.
For cereal I usually eat Kashi Autumn Harves or Autumn wheat, can't remember the exact name, and Barbara's corn flakes. The Kashi you can find at Giant, whole foods and probably other groceries. I get the corn flakes at Whole Foods.
I hope this helps a little.

Thank you guys. I wish I lived a larger city so I would have more choices. We a supercenter walmart and a homeland and united. lol I couldn't find any blueberry juice or pear juice. i did find a few things tho. I was told there was a health food store somewhere close by I am going to look for it and maybe I'll have some better luck.
Oh Laurie you are right I did put some bubble bath in my water just cause thats what I was use to. I will try the baking soda. I use dove bath soap cause we all have senstive skin anyways and it has always been the best.
Thanks for all the advice I appreciate any I can get right now since I am new to this.

When you are able to get to a health food store look for Knutsons (sp) bluberry juice. It is concentrated and unsweetened. I have used it for iced drink and also hot as a tea. It has been a blessing for me.

Also there is a tea called Rooibus (red leaf) that comes from Africa. To me it is very much like Lipton's tea that I have always loved before IC.

          Good luck.

                Good morning Melissa~
I get my Mother Donna "Pure Soap from DHCcare.com or you can order by phone at 800-342-2273. It's not cheap but she uses it strickly for her IC and it last an amazing amount of time and it's the only soap we have found that doesn't irriatate, it's soap in it's purest form. Hope this helps, Carolyn

                  Good morning Briza~
How long have you been in remission now? My Mother is using the same tools you use with stress reduction, meditation, and diet, but still needs the meds. Thanks, Carolyn

Hands down, the best soap for me is pure olive oil soap. It doesn't dry out or irritate my skin. I buy the Kiss My Face brand and never have any problem with it. I also like that if I have any skin irritations, it tends to soothe them.
