  • Post Oral Surgery -- What Can I Eat? Can't pee! HELP!

Just had my wisdom teeth out yesterday and could REALLY use some suggestions on what I can eat. I don't want to eat non-nourishing things all week (doc told me to eat ONLY soft for a whole week) and so far the only thing I've been able to eat is jello. I made chicken broth two nights ago to keep for making blended soups but that'll only last me a few days - and how can I subsist on soup for three meals a day for a whole week? My big problem is that I can't eat eggs or do dairy in significant quantities and I'm gluten intolerant -- so I really don't know what I can make that'll provide me some sustenance but won't upset my stomach OR contain little pieces of food that could potentially get lodged into the places where the teeth used to be.

    Ideas would be wonderful!

On a side note, I can't pee. I'm assuming it's because of the sedation (I was asleep for the surgery) but it's been almost 24 hours and all I'm getting is dribble. Unfortunately I was up every hour last night because my bladder was hurting and I had a lot of urge but when I sat on the toilet, not much. I pushed it out, which I know is so bad but it just kind of happened. This happened before after a laparoscopy and I had to go all the way back to the doctor (45 minute drive) to get catheterized. I'd rather not have to do that if at possible. Any suggestions on what I can do at home to help my bladder relax? I have a heating pad on my bladder now and I do have some valium suppositories that I haven't tried. ARGH

One thing you can do is to go to the baby food aisle at your local grocery store and pick up some things there. When I had oral surgery that's what I did. I also drank Boost, but I think it has milk.

      Apple sauce
if you can tolerate milk products I drink ensure (to keep weight on) milk shakes
maybe the dumplings (without the chicken)
      chicken noodle soup
      popscicles(?)

Just remember though you don't want the hot stuff too hot and the cold too cold. Do not drink from a straw either.

Can't do milk, plus the ingredients in Ensure and similar products are really high in sugar and unhealthy ingredients.

And can't do noodles or rice. I don't have the jaw function to chew so I'd be swallowing chunks. Not good. Plus, I don't want ANYTHING stuck in those sockets. It's gotta be like liquid. Just had a baked sweet potato and it was REALLY hard to eat, even all mashed up and in little bites.

You should be able to handle strained baby food. When I had oral surgery, I did a lot of that. I also put some things in the blender and pureed them so I could just drink my food. You must have had some really bad wisdom teeth. When I had mine out, it only bothered me for a couple of days, but only two of them were impacted.

The TMJ surgery was the worst because I wasn't allowed to chew anything. At my doctor's advice, I didn't try to avoid the calories for the "no chew" period.

Honestly, my bladder is hurting worse than my mouth. But I'm deeply concerned about getting a dry socket and don't want any itty bits of food stuck in the holes. So, I'm obsessing.
I'm icing my jaw -- on and off both sides. My wisdom teeth were actually fully erupted (out above the gum line) so they weren't impacted. They were just decayed from not being able to reach them when brushing because of how far back they are and the shape of my mouth. I wouldn't say it's painful now (sore) but from what I hear the pain of a dry socket is goddawful. And that scares the bejesus out of me. I'm a huge wuss and extremely afraid of dental pain.

You may have progressed past this point on your oral surgery but my instructions were to put a wet tea bag on the area and it is supposed to help with the healing. Maybe to stop the bleeding but it was a comfort to me. I keep herbal non caffeen tea bags.

Canned pears - put them in the food processor to make it like applesauce.

I can't have dairy or gluten either (or eggs). What about mashed potatoes?? I have this with a gravy my husband makes out of rice milk, almond flour and I think chicken broth or something else I will have to ask him. Potatoes are good for you. What about freezing some almond or rice milk in a cup then letting it melt a little and eating it like a milk shake? You could puree like organic green beans into a mush. I can't do babyfood because of the Vit C. You could also cook a squash and puree it into mush. Butternut may work for best. Sorry this are the only things I can really eat so I don't know what else to suggest.
