This may seem like a silly question but here goes. So you can down load the IC diet list here on the site, giving IC Friendly, Try it, and Caution list. On the caution list it clearly states Absorbic acid as a caution. Now here's where I'm a bit confused...You can purchase IC Friendly Fruit juices from this site, organic pear and blue berry juice, yet if you click on the photo for more info, the pear juice has Absorbic acid. So if Absorbic acid is on the caution list, how does this make the Organic Pear juice become friendly???? Please help, as I am a little stumped here. Carolyn

IC Friendly fruit juice and the IC caution list?

The ascorbic acid is listed last on the ingredients --- which means there isn't much in there. If you're concerned and want to try it, I suggest a small drink at first.

Thanks Donna~ I appeciate the input, but if Absorbic Acid is a no no and not even on the try it list, and everyone here is all about getting out of pain, why would you even try it? Were all here doing everything to get ourselves or someone we love out of pain. I think that advertising a product that the network selll's and calls it an IC FRIENDLY Item, is in my view miss advertisment. I am not trying to be rude, and it may just be an oversite, but when you hand out a list to caution people on what may send then into a flare, I think it should be very clear, mayby call the IC FRIENDY JUICE, low acid. My Mother has been in a flare since being diagnosed over a year ago, and has been going by the IC FRIENDLTY List from this site, and has had nothing but pain since. She is finally getting a little peace since I have been breaking down the IC FRIENLY LIST, checking all lables only to find that what is on the IC FRIENLY LIST is not that friendly afterall, I only wish that while starting out we would have been infoirmed with this extensive list that we would have to check every ingredient on every lable. Just an example....Potato bread listed as friendly, not so friendly if you read the lable, as it has soy, not soy oil. So many items saying things are friendly are infact not true. If I had made this chart up, I might have told IC patients that they may have a problem with the IC friendly list and that they should check ingredients against the TRY IT and CAUTION list, shuch as allspice which is on the IC Friendly list, yet some of the ingredients in allspice is on the caution list. Even you Donna, noted on a thread that if people were to post their recipes, that they thought to be IC FRIENDLY, should take care to point out that it may not work for everyone . When I'm looking out for my Mother, I have everything in her best interest, and certainly not anything that will hurt her and continue her ongoing flare, I want her pain free! The IC freidnly list has been trying enough without going straight to the CAUTION LIST. I just think that advertising the IC FREINDLY JUICE as FRIEDLY is definately false advertisment. We can get the same juice it the store for cheaper with the same ingredients, and believe me, I have spent $100.00's here trying to get my Mother better and I feal that everything advertised as friendly on this site should NOT contradict the IC FRIENDLY LIST from this site unless stated. I absolutely see your point. With blueberry and pear juices usually being considered the only safe fruit juices, and this idea being consistently enforced on this board, you are correct to assume that these juices sold in the ICN shop would be absorbic acid free. Absolutely! I'm sure it must have been an oversight. I'm glad you brought it to our attention. Thank you

In my opinion no juice is "safe" for IC. I can not even eat pear. Sometimes I eat small amount of frozen blueberries but only if they are not strong acid and not on a empty stomach. I found frozen wild blueberry in Whole Food Market, they are very small. About potatoes, I cannot eat them in any form, they one of the worst foods for my IC. I understand your concern, I learned to make my own list of "relatively safe food".

Some ICers are extremely diet sensitive; the food list was developed with input from thousands of IC patients. I can tolerate most of the foods listed in the friendly list, some from the try it list --- and even a very few from the caution list.
At the time I was diagnosed (1975) not much, if any, thought had been given to a food connection. It took me a long time to identify that diet effected my symptoms. Having the list as a guide would have been a real help to me. I still, after 36 years with IC, read labels on every food item I purchase. If the packagers would stop with the "new and improved"it would make my life easier.
I don't carry the food list with me to the grocery store any more, but I keep it handy and consult it often.

Thanks everyone~
I can't wait to check out the Simply Apple Sabstory! This opens a new door if my Mother can tollerate it. Were just trying to steer clear of anything right now in order to nail down inflamation foods, she is loosing weight because she is terrified to eat anything and it scares me. I will look for the apple juice when I go to the store. Carolyn

For some people with PBS/IC it may be worth it to try out the anti inflammatory diet. The Better Bladder Book lists foods that are known to cause inflammation, and potatoes are one of them. Most of the foods listed are pretty much similar to the IC diet with a few exceptions. Since a lot of us may have different causes for our IC and have additional medical conditions, it may be worth experimenting with an anti inflammatory food diet.

I would be very careful with apple juice --- just a small drink first. It's on the "try it" list.
