  • Fiber!

    Hi,

Can someone please help me with Fiber? I would like to start taking a Fiber supplement like Metamucil or Fiber Con or Benefiber but I am so confused on which is IC friendly and I need something I am running into a lot of constipation issues. So what is better a pill form or a powder form and which brand? I have never taken a fiber supplement in the past so this is all a bit confusing for me with all the Varies options! Thanks

I have been taking the Benefiber chews without a problem and it really has helped with the constipation. I don't think I'm as food sensitive as some others though.
Diagnosed with IC in April 2011. Medications and IC treatments did not help, diagnosed with PFD in September of 2013. Still searching for answers as to why I have never-ending frequency/urgency issues.

    Current medications/treatments:
Pelvic physical therapy, valium suppositories, b and o suppositories, acupuncture, probiotics, magnesium, epsom salt baths

    Previous medications/treatments:
Elmiron, Hydroxizine, Elavil, VESIcare, Series of rescue instillations using Elmiron, water, lidocaine, & sodium bicarb and self-cathing with instills as needed, D-mannose, Glucosamine, Hyophen (generic Prosed), Colostrum, IC diet, PTNS, chiropractic treatments, Desert Harvest Aloe Vera, CystoProtek

I take the Metamucil capsules. They really help soften the stool. I also like the Dannon Activa yogurt, but I don't react to yogurt like some IC patients.

Just had a peach one! :-)

        fiber

        Hi,
I use Metamucil Clear and Natural. I also drink a mug of hot prune juice in the morning before I eat.

on this topic...does anyone know what the problem ingredients are in other fibers? i've been taking a chewy fiber supplement that is delicious and i would like to keep taking it, but i'm still pretty new to the diet. it specifically says it doesn't contain preservatices, wheat, peanuts, or soy.

maybe someone who is better at reading labels can help me out on this one. the ingredients are: chicory root fiber, gelatin, citric acid, lactic acid, black carrot juice concentrate, purple berry extract, turmeric, annatto, fractioned coconut oil, carnauba wax, lo han fruit concentrate.

i haven't noticed that it makes me flare, but like i said, i'm pretty new to the diet and still working to find my baseline.

          thanks!

            fiber!

            Hi Jessica,

The ingrediant that struck me as something that might cause a problem is the citric acid. I know for me, that would not work.

I use Metamucil clear and natural. It's a flavorless powder that completely dissolves in fluid, so it's easy to take.

Each of us is different though, so what doesn't work for me, might not bother you at all.

Keep track of your symptoms and put them together with what you ate or did during the day,(journal helps) so you can figure out what is and isn't okay for you.

            Keep us posted,
            Laurie
