  • Tap water

    Hello,

Are there any reasons to change from tap water to bottled apart from acid levels? Mine is pH8 - lots of calcium here. As a dedicated environmentalist, I'd like to stick to tap, but health comes first

It depends on how you do with tap water, every icer is different.
Just like other drinks and foods some icers can tolerate alot of foods that are on the ic diet "try it list". Let us no how it works for you if you have problems you may want to try the purified bottled water.

What about a Brita filter? I use that, mainly because I hate spending money on bottled water and having gazillions of plastic bottles to recycle.

I found that tap water makes everything with the IC worse. There is just one bottled water I can drink. No calories or salt and has vitamins in it but it has to be just the one flavor. Wow, life sure is exciting isn't it when you can find something to drink?

I'm ok with most bottled waters. The ones that cause me trouble are the ones with added minerals. I like Crystal Geyser, Arrowhead, Aquafina best.

I found that my Brita filter actually makes the water more acidic. I tested my tap water first without passing it through the filter and it was quite alkaline (pH above 7) and then passed the tap water through the Brita filter and then tested it. It was acidic (pH about 6). So now I have started drinking water straight from the tap without using the filter. Can't say I've noticed any improvement in my IC symptoms though!!

I drink tap water at home (deep well, no chemicals) but when away from home, I buy whatever plain spring water, no additives, is cheapest.

I think it's worthwhile to give spring water a try for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.

I drink the filtered water from our refrigerator and do better with that than anything else. When I am away from home I stick with Aquafina, Poland Springs, or White Mountain. Even Kirkland water bothers me. Go figure.....

BTW, I think Jill sells a stainless steel water bottle in the store here.
