  • PFD and the diet?!

I was just diagnosed with PFD. From what I know so far, I dont have IC.
Im just wondering if people follow the diet with PFD?
Before finding this out, I tried to follow the diet, but honestly didnt notice differences. I only gave it two weeks, so maybe I just didnt do it long enough. One week I ate everything bad and had no pain just that week, so that made me decide it doesn't effect me?

    Am I wrong????

I don't find much difference with the diet either and I have PFD. I have suspected IC due to frequency urgency burning bladder urethra pain etc, but then again this could be all PFD. Grapes, oranges/juice some apples raspberries spicy food and alcohol all flare me. Strangely coffee and lots of other IC nono's don't. This is all I have found that flares me so I am pretty lucky. By flare I mean my usual daily symptoms worsen.

In Amy Steins book Heal Pelvic Pain it mentions even if you have PFD to not irritate your bladder or bowl because this will worsen the muscle tension. I would advise to avoid irritants. The book is a great read if you haven’t got it already!

What symptoms lead to your dx of PFD?

I have frequency, tight pains & tension down there, and abdomen pain.
They felt my muscles and said they were really tense.

I just ordered a book by Dr. Moldwin, I havnt read any books yet though! Thank you.. I will look into that one as well.

Does it hurt you to sit/wear jeans/ have sex/ use tampons?

I have been diagnosed with Vulvodynia and PFD but I don't know what pain is coming from where. It all just feels the same to me.

        Glad I could help!

Thats interesting, I never heard of Vulvodynia. Oh boy another thing to look into lol...
yes sitting seems to make it worse, I always want to walk around when Im in pain. Sex is effected, but I am able to... I just am careful on what I do. It does hurt afterwards most of the time. I rather wear loose clothes when Im in pain, I dont know if that part is all in my head though.

Tampons... I do use them, Im a little concerned for my next period since my pain seems to be worse lately... I hope it wont be a problem.

I just went to the gyno (today) and it hurt to get checked... and it has been "uncomfortable" before, but today I actaully had to say OW during it

            Also...

When I wake up in the morning, when I first move or stretch... my abdomen hurts... sharp pains... I thought it was my ovaries... which scared me until I found out its normal to have pain there for PFD.

Sounds to me like they are the same thing!

I had been diagnosed with Vulvodynia and it wasn't untill my physio checked she said I ahd PFD.

to me it sounds like the exact same thing. I may post another thread asking if someone can clarify the difference.

The quality of pain I get is a burning irritated raw feeling in the vluva. I sometimes get aching - and that could perhaps be the PFD. A warm bath helps the aching in my vulva and a heatpack for the bladder/pelvic pain.

Is your pain burning or aching and is it in the vulva or pelvis?

Do tampons feel like a knife?

I think the key to distinguish between PFD and Vulvodynia is the quality of the pain?

The loose clothes are not in your head, I can't wear anything but, it just burns!! I had a period a few months ago where I could wear jeans for a short period but sititng in them was a nightmare! This week I have just had a raw vulva all the time and pt seems to make it worse?!

Pt has dramtically helped the pain with sex. Relaxing those muscles makes all the difference. I still suffer sometimes and it isn't like it was prior to this but I still enjoy it somewhat.

Im so sorry about that... I dont have any burning or rawness, that must be the Vulvodynia. I can wear jeans and stuff for the most part, its just during my bad times I have too much tension, sharpness going on down there in the pelvic and low abdomen... so then I will wear cotton shorts. Soffee shorts are cute sometimes

I would stay away from tampons if your getting such bad pains from them... even though you probably rather tampons, it could be slowing down the treatments. I hope you feel better soon, make sure you put aveeno in your baths to prevent yourself from drying out there... that wouldnt help the rawness your feeling. Im using aveeno baby bath oatmeal packets! Baths dry you out, like washing your hands too much makes them dry!
