I am gluten free, vegan, and allergic to pineapple. So it sounds like we have a very similar set of restrictions. My IC is mild, so I follow the diet but can have some things on the 'caution' list.

    So follow me on tumblr!

I have a tumblr that shows my vegan and gluten free food that I make. It's just for fun, nothing professional. It has entries that are not perfect to the IC diet, because I'm mild and can get away with it, but follow if you want ideas:

I don't drink tea at all unless it's herbal. Caffeine doesn't seem to be the problem for me as much as the acid in tea. There are some very good herbal teas out there and they are great with ice.

I am thinking I just need to make iced herbal tea..

I ate really good today, all "good" foods and all water to drink. I feel really good right now. If this diet really works, I will totally stick to it. No more running to the bathroom 50 times at night.. I hope..I keep thinking can it really be this easy??? oh and I am also on Elmiron, so that might be helping now..

I really miss my iced tea too! I did try decaf iced tea with 2 prelief and it wasn't as bad but it still effected me somewhat. I really wish I could find a low acid decaf black tea but I can't find it anywhere.

    Hard diet

I have been following the IC diet for about 3 weeks now. This is so hard. My body seems to crave th acid stuff. Before I knew that I had IC I would drink straight pickle juice and eat lemons and limes with salt, I know Im sure this sounds weird!! Now follwing the IC diet i'm having withdraws of all those things. It's so hard for me not to eat them, when I am still having pain eatting the things that I am suppossed to eat. I have been getting so frustrated and moody as well as having a hard time dealing with all this. How do you all try to keep it off your minds??

    Thanks

thanks so much for your replies. Yesterday I realized I drank a bunch of iced tea (not knowing it was acidic),I had ketchip, and baked beans mix. That might have made my symptoms flair up today.

I'd do the same thing as Donna, except that I'd highlight the things you CAN eat! Feels a little more positive

I'd also focus on the vegetables you can eat- those tend to provide me the most variety in my diet. I also found that only eating one or two types of vegetables at each meal makes my diet feel more varied than if I steam the same bunch every day. So, one day I'll roast zucchini & yellow crookneck squash, another day I'll steam broccoli, another day I'll sauté red bell peppers with brown rice. So, finding variety in vegetables, method of preparation, and spices can also be helpful in feeling less deprived.

You're not alone in the food allergy/IC link. I've got a bunch of allergies myself: fish, shellfish, soy, peanuts, avocado, some treenuts, some legumes.

When I get cranky and frustrated with the diet, I try to remind myself that even though I may feel alone at that moment, there are thousands of IC sisters and brothers all over the country (and world!) that are eating the same as me and who understand!

Wishing you the best and that the diet will bring you relief soon,

My suggestion is to click on the link to the IC diet in my signature below --- then print it out and cross off the things you can't have. You can then plan your diet --- I hope this helps.

started a topic I have many food sensitivities.. what to do?

I have many food sensitivities.. what to do?

Hi there, I am brand new on the board. The dr thinks I have IC but I need to go to urologist to get this confirmed for sure.. in couple weeks.
As for the diet I am sort of tough place. I have severe food allergies (I cannot eat them) to all wheat, gluten, all dairy, eggs, beef, lamb, mustard, some forms of beans, pineapple, and a few more misc. grains. As you can see my list of foods I can eat is super limited. I eat a lot of fruits..
do you have any diet suggestions for me??
Working...
