  • Feeling so much better w/diet

I just started it a couple of days ago..and today I feel so much better!! I have been sticking to it perfectly and when I feel uncomfortable I do the 1/4 tsp baking soda with water. I did that last night when I couldn't sleep and I went right to sleep a half hour later. The trips to the bathroom are much less. Once every hour or half hour instead of every ten minutes. I still feel a little discomfort, but it's tolerable right now. It is so nice to start feeling normal again! I think I can do this long term.
I even went to the local fair here today and I ate a little cotton candy and avoided ALL of the the yummy other foods. When I got home my wonderful husband made me gluten/dairy/egg free (I am allergic to) waffles with real maple syrup to make up for the fact I couldn't have a funnel cake, lol!
Anyways, I hope this encourages other to give a try

      That's great

Yes I felt better within days of starting the diet also. It's good that you are finding treats to help you--when there are times you can't eat other things. I didn't find it challenging really to stick with the diet, mostly because the pain was so bad it wasn't worth eating something in a few moments to have pain for hours. It is challenging trying to eat out, at social gatherings, or traveling, but other than that it's not too bad at all. I'm glad your husband is so supportive. It means alot to have support from your family.

You are so lucky you had such an immediate improvement from diet alone. It took me quite a long time on the diet to see positive effects. I'm going to our county fair here this week and wanted to know why the funnel cakes are a no no for the diet. What's in them that's not good for the bladder?

That's great! Before I went into remission there were times I could manage my symptoms with diet alone and that gave me a sense of control back--even with the food restrictions, it was liberating to not have to take medicines! Good luck. Thanks for posting your success.

About the funnel cakes: some of the mixes may have preservatives in them that could be problematic. But, some may not or you may not be sensitive to that level of preservative. And if you choose toppings that are not IC triggers, it may be ok.

The bigger issue that I see with the funnel cakes is that many of us have trouble managing our weight with the IC medicines and diet and the funnel cakes aren't good for weight management or cardiovascular health. But, if those things aren't issues for you....

Thanks Kadi. I thought maybe there was a strange ingredient in them I wasn't aware of.

I hope you can eat some of funnel cake. I would have but I am allergic to gluten. Our local school runs the elephant ear booth (for private school profit) and I can tell you what is in it exactly: flour, high gluten flour, yeast, some sugar, and evaporated milk. Plus sugar and cinnamon and the oil to cook. So that might help you

Hey - thanks. I don't do well with dairy and sugar together (get the 'runs') so I guess I will skip them. My bladder may be ok with them but my intestines probably won't. For some reason dairy mixed with a sugar does this to me and adding the oil for frying is a disaster. Don't remember the last time I ever had a doughnut.

oh my word a donut sounds sooo good right now.. I am glad my hubby is making me rice krispie treats tonight (no-gluten brown puffed rice and non-dairy with margarine)! I am so craving some sort of junk food as I haven't had any in a while!
