  • Prune juice

I read the IC diet list and plums is on the try it list. I am not following the diet to a t, but do avoid my triggers which are soda, coffee, most tea, most but not all juices, in fact, most drinks. But I'm desperate to overcome the chronic constipation and am now trying prune juice. (stool softeners didn't work)

The Prune Juice actually isn't half bad. I'm wondering if anyone has tried it with IC and if they had issues?

I'm actually already in a slight flare and may not know how this affects me. If I start to go every five minutes, however, I'll have to cross it off the list.

Here are a few of my favorite (for me, IC friendly) cold remedies...
      1. Hot showers with a "Sudacare Shower Soother" on the floor (fizzy tablet that releases Vicks type vapors when the hot water hits it)
      2. Rinsing nose out with "Simply Saline"-reduces congestion
      3. Vicks "Baby Rub"- milder than regular Vicks & more soothing
      4. BreatheRight nasal strips (stick on to outside of your nose to open it up more)
      5. Hot pear juice with a little honey
      6. For sore throat & to soothe dry cough, Werthers Original hard candy
      7. Gargle with salt water
      8. Homemade chicken soup
      9. Mucinex for chest coughs
      10. Ludens Licorice Throat Drops or Ricola original (not citrus!) drops.
      11. Vaporizer next to bed, mine has a place to put menthol liquid in it.
      12. Theraflu vapor patch: Like a sticker with Vicks vapors in it that you stick to your pj top. No gooey Vicks all over your chest!

I can eat fresh plums, but I just can't stand the flavor of prune juice so I can't guess about it. We have prunes on two trees that will be ripe in a week or two --- they are soooo good fresh.

I seem to be having no additional problems with the prune juice. Actually, it's not all that bad with ice. It takes a little getting used to and it's something for me to drink other than water. There is literally nothing in the juice but prunes.

Donna...that's great you will enjoy the plums. I like plums but only eat them when they are super sweet.

That's the only way I will eat them --- they're best when they start falling from the trees.

              prunes

I remember something my mother made when I was a child. She used dried plums (prunes) and stuffed them with cream cheese. It was somewhat like a appetizer. I was surprised how good it tasted. She must have been trying to get us kids to eat healthy.

Plums and cream cheese sound good. My mother eats figs and goat's cheese.

                  pluots

Have you tried pluots? They are a plum/apricot combo, but much sweeter and juicier than a plum. Plums were my favorite fruit til I discovered pluots and when I was having bladder symptoms I coud tolerate them a lot better than plums. Seems like the plums we get in the stores where I live are always rock hard and practically sour, but the pluots are always ripe.

I can't eat prunes or drink prune juice....glad you can! I think it is the dried fruit that I have a problem with.

I do like plums and nectarines.....but their season is SO short in Michigan. I was able to get my hands on good nectarines for about 2 weeks, then they started to come in bad. Wish they were a year round fruit like apples, pears, grapes, and bananas. :-(

It definitely could be a problem. Some ICers can tolerate some prune juice, but I would be cautious with frequent use. You might want to consider asking your doctor about a stool softener.
