  • Truvia issue

    Hi all,
Obviously, I don't use any artificial sweeteners at all. But, once in a while you desire something sweet to use, and don't want sugar. I have heard about this one called Truvia. I think the deal is that it is supposed to made from only plant matter, or some such thing. Anybody have any experience with it, or is it just another bunch of chemicals? I have also heard about Stevia. Anyone out there?

    Thanks,
    Karen

Question about uroglist in Kansas City, KS

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has ever been seen by Doctor Tomas L. Griebling he is in Kansas City, KS. I have been seeing a local uroglist in Manhattan KS but I am being reffered on to doctor Griebling. I have read good things about him on the internet, but I was wondering if anyone has personally has seen this doctor. If so do you think that he seems to be a good doctor. I haven't had much good luck with the one that I am currently seeing

    Thanks,
    Beverly

      Hi Karen,

I was just diagnosed at the end of August, so there are others who may be more help.

Here's what little I know: Truvia has stevia in it. Stevia is natural- from a plant, as you said. But, I believe in the processing of the stevia, something is added-- erythritol-- that may be an irritant to the bladder. (this may be true of the stevia in health food stores also-- I don't know about that for sure.) I have been on the IC diet since June and had been using Truvia before that. I decided to eliminate it until I can be sure if it bothers me or not. I am not yet feeling well enough to find out the "lesser" things that irritate my bladder. I am sure about the "biggies" like coffee, tea, chocolate, carbonation and anything acidic. I use honey most of the time as a sweetener, and just try to use less white and brown sugar, but I understand your need for something sweet!

        HI Angela,

Thanks for your reply. Everything you said makes sense. When you buy something processes, it seems almost always that "things" are added to it one way or another. These are the very things that give us trouble. But I always have my eyes open for a new idea, so when something new appears out there, I try to check it out.I also use honey on ocassion.

I have been on the diet for several years now. It takes a while, but now I feel good most of the time if I eat carefully. Not that this is easy. NO WAY!!! You have to think about it all the time. No more walking past the counter and popping a few grapes into your mouth. Buffets can be hard for me. Sometimes I will have something on my plate before I remember that it is not the old days anymore, and I just can't try whatever I want anymore. I knew I really had IC when I had a dream and I was going to try some hot spicy chicken dish at a wedding and I said to myself, "You can't have that". (Yes, in my dream). Most of the time I am happy with the diet, but once in a while I feel really sorry for myself and really feel that this is so cruel. I will never give up praying that there is a cure soon. At least I am blessed that I can at least feel pretty good. Some of the people out there take all kinds of medication and still are in alot of pain. So, I do realize that I am lucky.

        Good luck and thanks.
        Karen
