  • Puppy Chow

    Hello!

I'm recently diagnosed with IC so I've been acclimating myself to the diet and reading constantly. I think I've passed the 'overwhelmed" phase and have for the moment, moved into "slight acceptance" phase. I'm sure I will be in the acceptance phase soon. HOWEVER, moving onto my question:

Do you think making Puppychow, with white chocolate chips, instead of the real live, glorious, perfect, mouthwatering, choirs of angels singing chocolate chips would be okay?

I was thinking in bed last night that it should work. Are you familiar with the recipe? Instead of melting the peanut butter(I tolerate peanuts and peanut butter) and the succulent aforementioned chocolate chips, I'd melt the white (not really chocolate if you ask me) chips, with the pb, stir, throw in the Chex, then toss with the powdered sugar. I mean it actually sounds good.

I'm trying to 'fine tune' my new diet, intermingling family favorites. We are all such creatures of habit, that even with a slight change to a recipe, I think this would still feel like the real thing?
    Thank you for any input.

I think carob chips would be better since they taste so much like milk chocolate (to me anyway!). I like it almost as much as real chocolate.

Thanks Cindi, you know what? You might be right. I made Blondies last week, and added carob chips so it would be like chocolate chip cookie bars on half and then used the white chocolate chips on the other half of the blondies and we preferred the carob chip side to the white chocolate chip side!

Thank you for your speedy reply

I agree that the carob would probably work best.
Interesting name for the recipe btw. For a moment there, I was worried that you were REALLY taking the diet to new extremes!!

Either one sounds good (carob or white chocolate). I made white chocolate brownies last week for the first time, and they were good, but nothing that special. But I prefer eating white chocolate candy to that. I just noticed today that white chocolate was on the try it column. That surprised me. What could be risky in it?

I think you should share your recipe. I just don't cook that much anymore and don't have many creative ideas. That sounds like a good one.
          treatment:
-I follow the IC diet to the letter
          -acupuncture and chinese herbs
          -Prelief
          -UTA
          -instillations as needed
-beginning yoga and specialized yoga for breathing and relaxation
          -Wellbutrin
          -Klonopin

          main symptoms: pain and burning

That made me laugh!! You know what? When I was posing my question I did have the thought..."Hmm...does this snack have a different name in different areas of the states??" For the life of me I couldn't come up with what else to call it so stuck with what we call it lol.

That would be taking the diet in a new direction wouldn't it?

              Here you go Pennyjo

[QUOTE=penneyjo;569486]Either one sounds good (carob or white chocolate). I made white chocolate brownies last week for the first time, and they were good, but nothing that special. But I prefer eating white chocolate candy to that. I just noticed today that white chocolate was on the try it column. That surprised me. What could be risky in it?

Here is the original puppychow recipe:

              1/2C. butter
              1C. Peanut Butter
2C. Chocolate Chips (mouth watering just typing that)
              1t. Vanilla
              17.5oz box 'O Chex
              1# Confectioners Sugar

Melt the butter, peanut butter together. Once melty and smooth, take off the heat and add the 2 cups of chocolate chips (or in our lovely IC existance this becomes carob chips *or* white chocolate chips). Throw the vanilla in whilst it is melting and stir. Once smooth pour over the Chex cereal and kind of gently toss it about, coating all of the cereal. THEN pour the powdered sugar into a plastic grocery bag, or small trash bag, and then pour the Chex in along with it and shake it to coat the luciously coated cereal with more sweet goodness.

Lay out on a cookie tray to cool and then put it in an air tight container and store in the fridge. mmm num nums!!! But be careful....if you try to 'sneak' a few pieces, be sure to wipe away the tell tale sign of the powdered sugar from your chin/and or your clothing. Leave no evidence behind.
I can't wait to try this with the carob!!
              Enjoy!!

LOL I wasn't sure what was going on either. Although when you think about it, it is pretty sad because we wouldn't even be able to eat puppy chow because I'm sure there are ingredients in there that we can't eat..lol. So dog food is on the caution list..lol
As far as white chocolate chips I think they would work just fine. I will add though that white chocolate is sweeter than brown chocolate so make sure to adjust your recipe accordingly. I for one do not like carob I find it really bitter tasting. I wish it tasted like milk chocolate to me but it doesn't..sad me...lol

                Tried:
Detrol:only took one pill and it made me sick
                Elmiron:caused horrible pain(took 1 week)
CystaQ:caused alot of burning and pain(only took one pill)
Wellbutrin:only on it for three days as it caused alot of bladder pain
Elavil:Took one pill and it caused a flare that lasted almost two weeks. It was the longest flare I've ever had. Never again..ouch
Prelief:made my bladder burn and feel tingly.

                Take:
                Uracyst:Started May 19 2011
Enablex:take one pill daily with no issues
                Naproxen:for pain as needed
Baking Soda with water:as needed and it's a God send. It brings down my pain within 20 mins.
Venofer: Started April 2012 by IV for low Iron. I do not tolerate oral Iron so this is the route I had to take.Does not bother my bladder but did have other side effects. I take Benedryl with each treatment to avoid side effects.
                Supplements:Whey Protein powder daily
Dessert Harvest Aloe It has been helping alot but I can only take it every two days as my "die off" reaction has been severe.

Carol, I agree, the carob is bitter. Maybe I'll play around with carob and white chocolate mixed. And either way you are right, I'll have to tweak the rest of the recipe accordingly.

Yeah...I cant remember where I found the concoction--thinking though that it was on the box of Chex (cant think of anywhere else I would have seen it). I've also seen it called Puppy Chow....kind of a cute name and it certainly gets peoples attention.
