    Hey Colleen,

    New Englanders, a hardy bunch we are and have to be! No choice! As we always say "it is what it is."

    Oh yes, the hot drinks, Bob is hooked on his marshmallow root tea, we splurged and bought a Faberware Superfast electric percolater into
    which we put the tea root, no filter necessary (no bleach!) and it perks in like 5 minutes. Best investment we ever made. We have added vanilla bean or a cinnamon stick and it turns out great. Think it cost like $35, online. Don't all ICers do their shopping online anyway? Also use vanilla almond milk instead of plain old cream. Variety sometimes gets you through the urges.

    Am going to try some carob powder in there during the brewing. Hmmmm...chocolate flavored tea! And maybe throw in a peppermint as well. Experimenting is fun, and so glad we all have each other to share this stuff. It's not so bad, and we can all be healthier getting away from the caffiene and soda. Who knows, when we get to the cure, ICers may be the healthiest of them all! Jill, wife of Bob

    Another great idea, Donna. I do love cinnamon but try to be careful about how much I have to prevent problems. The stick "marinating" idea sounds like the perfect solution !

    I like to put apple juice in the refrigerator with just a cinnamon stick in it and let it set overnight --- then warm a small cup in the microwave --- it has a slight cinnamon flavor without overdoing it.

    Thank you for the suggestions, Jill. We are right next door in New Hampshire ! Glad it's "warmer" today. Hard to say that when it's 10 degrees out, but it's the truth.

    I am fortunate that apples haven't seemed to be a trigger for me so far.

    But, now that I know I have multiple kidney stones (now too big to pass and blocking my kidneys), I have to re-evaluate some of the things that I thought were triggers after all of my kidney stone procedures are completed. My pain flare-ups we now know were kidney-stone related and not IC-related like we originally thought (I'm still pretty new to the IC diagnosis so that is why it was hard to tell). So I will be trying some of the foods I thought were triggers and maybe I'll really be able to tolerate them.

    I like the white chocolate peppermint milk drink idea and think I'll give it a try. We have some of those starlight mints that I could use in it instead of peppermint sticks.

    Personally, apples in any form is a trigger for Bob. How about hot "chocolate" made with carob powder and sugar instead of chocolate. It's pretty good! And I can sympathize with you, we had wind chills Sunday of -46. (Maine) Oh, and also try white chocolate in hot milk with a peppermint stick as a stirrer. So good! Jill, wife of Bob

    Hot Apple Cider ?

    I'm wondering if anyone has tried / is able to drink hot apple cider with no extra spices in it ? I'm looking for a hot drink besides my decaf tea to drink to help keep me warm. (We just got above zero degrees about an hour ago !)
    I regularly drink diluted apple juice with no problem.

    I would classify my IC as generally "mild". My main triggers are citrus and spices like chili, pepper and paprika.
