Does anyone use Prelief Granules? Why would you use this instead of the tablets? How do you use them?

    Thanks for any info.

    Hi!

Prelief powder is only available direct because the tablets are much more popular and the stores carry whatever sells best.

If you visit our website, www.prelief.com and click 'Shop Online', you will see that we offer a Prelief 150 serving powder shaker and a small Prelief powder squeeze bottle.

Each 1/4 teaspoon of powder is comparable to two tablets. The powder and the tablets are the same formulation and you can crush the tablets.

Our recommended dosage is to take 2 tablets or use 1/4 tsp of powder with each meal and snack. Prelief is taken with all meals, regardless of foods eaten, because while some foods are obviously acidic (e.g. juices, coffee, etc), other acidic foods are not readily recognizable as such (e.g. chocolate, baked beans, etc). If you take Prelief regularly as directed, you should see some fairly immediate results.

    I hope this is helpful.

      Yes, thanks for the information.

However, I'm still wondering..... do you sprinkle the granules on your food or put it in water? Why would you use granules instead of tablets? Maybe some folks don't like taking pills?

        Hi Darlene:

You are right, some people do not like taking tablets. In some instances, they have trouble swallowing pills and IC patients often tell me that they already take too many pills!

The powder dissolves rapidly in food or non-alcoholic beverages. (Tablets are recommended for taking with alcoholic beverages and soda.)

I tried Prelief in the beginning of my IC but didn't really see a difference as I only took it with foods that were not okay. After reading this I think I'll give it another try and take it with everything. I have the bottle just sitting there. I'd love to drink some pop and it not cause pain too. I'll let ya all know how it goes.

After much experimentation and the old elimination diet, I figured out my trigger foods. Now when I want to "splurge," I pull out the Prelief. Actually, I carry the pills and the granules with me at all times.

Most times, I use the pills, but it depends on what I'm eating. My hubby actually is the one who ordered the granules for me (I actually started ordering all through the Prelief Web site because I can get the bigger bottles and it's easier than going to the store). He thought the granules would help me.

Vinegar is a big trigger for me, so if I'm going to eat ketchup or BBQ sauce, I'll often mix the granules into the sauce itself. I also LOVE Hawaiian pizza. Last time we had it, my hubby pre-Preliefed my half of the pizza for me.

I've had as much luck with the granules helping as I do the pills. Hope that helps.

                Hi Stacy,

Thanks so much for your input. It was very helpful. I'd be interested to know which foods you started with on the elimination diet. I really need to do it, but don't know where to start. Can you tell a bit about the process...as you did it?

And!!!! the tip for adding Prelief granules to tomato products was GREAT! I really miss it. I'll order some granules today!

                Warmly,
                Darlene

Hi, Darlene. You can find some great posts on here about the elimation diet. I can tell you that it's hard work and annoying sometimes, but so very worth it!

I started with just a few basics like plain white rice, plain chicken, etc. Within a few days I was starving and miserable. So I added pretty much everything from the usually safe list. I knew some triggers to start with - like caffeine and citrus fruit stuff. I kept a food diary and symptom diary to help me figure out what was OK.

Basically I slowly added stuff in. I'd try to add one thing at a time and give it a day or so to make sure it was OK. It was a lot of cooking at home or ordering a plain potato with only butter when I went out to eat. I did work out to plain hamburgers or unseasoned steaks, which helped with eating out.

What I found was that it helped my symptoms. I discovered my other big trigger of vinegar products. Once I eliminated things like salad dressing, ketchup, mayo, etc., I started feeling lots better. I wasn't eating that much of it before, but enough to make a difference.

I have the journals as Word documents that I can post or e-mail to you. The elimination diet takes some work and planning, but really pays off. I tried to make sure to include a well-rounded group of things. I'd have toast with butter for breakfast. I bought vanilla ice-cream cups, etc. It's also amazing how creative we can get with just a few ingredients when we have to!

Feel free to post, e-mail or PM with any questions. Good luck!

                    Dear Stacey:

With the Prelief added, the pizza became a super food, with the tomato lycopenes, Vitamin C and probably something on the order of a full glass of milk's worth of calcium from the Prelief (pizza already has some calcium on its own, especially if cheese on it). Darned near a balanced meal on its own.

                      Hi, Betty.

I love the thought of pizza being a balanced food! Now if only I could find a way for sweets to be the same way. THAT would be heavenly!
