  • How much?

I get a good result with prelief, but sometimes I find I need to take more than just two tablets, or it doesn't work. How much is too much? Would a higher daily dose present side effects?

    Thanks.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

    Peace, Carolyn

    Dear Carolyn:

Prelief is AkPharma's brand name for calcium glycerophosphate, an over-the-counter supplement made from an FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) mineral.

Our recommended dosage is to take 2 tablets with each meal and snack. More can be used when needed. Prelief is taken with all meals, regardless of foods eaten, because while some foods are obviously acidic (e.g. juices, coffee, etc), other acidic foods are not readily recognizable as such (e.g. chocolate, baked beans, etc.). There are no use limitations except for people who have been advised by their doctor not to take calcium, phosphorus or glycerin,/glycerol.

    I hope this is helpful.....

When I took it I had the powder form. When I took more then what the directions said to I would get dizzy. Of course it could just have been me.

I know it says to take 2 but I usually take 3. Like when I'm at work and I have to take Advil for pain I take 3 because I usually take 4 Advil to try to take the edge off. Tynenol doesn't do anything for me at all. 3 has worked great for me, as long as I take them the Advil doesn't bother me, the one time I didn't have any w/ me and still took the Advil I paid for it, so obviously the Prelief works.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Thanks, Christine. I'd been taking 4 or 5 at a time, but my symptoms are improving in general, so maybe someday...

BTW, I think that is so sweet that you list your stepchildren in your signature as well as your own child.

Oh thanks Carolyn, well they all live with me, it's a very full house. Over the past 5 years I've really done more for them than their mother so I feel like they are mine. When people ask how many children I have I say 4, then they look at me like I'm nuts because they can't believe I have 4 kids, then I have to explain that three of them are from hubby's first marriage.

That's really wonderful, I love to hear stories about successful blended families.

When my mom was a kid, her mother had problems with alcohol and, well, men. My mom was eventually taken in by, of all people, her ex-stepfather and his new wife, who already had two babies and lived in a one-bedroom apartment. They had such generous hearts, they made it all work out. Although her foster parents are long gone, to this day we still consider their kids and grandkids our closest family.

If they don't now, I'm sure your stepchildren will appreciate all you've done for them when they're grown.

                  Alert for Prelief users!!

I just found out that if you are taking Prelief, you need to be careful when you have to take antibiotics for a UTI or any other condition. My pharmacist says that it should be about four hours between the time you take your antibiotic and the Prelief as the Prelief contains compounds that grab onto the elements in the antibiotic, rendering the antibiotic less potent or almost useless depending on how much Prelief you are taking. In any case, don't take Prelief with an antibiotic!! I'm halfway through a course of antibiotics for a UTI and I just thought to ask the question! I hope the rest of the antibiotics in the bottle do the trick!
I will be 64 on April 15th. Disagnosed in January 2007, but must have had it for quite a while. Bladder capacity while sleeping is 700 cc. I also have Fibromyalgia, IBS with fissures at times, which are painful. I take Flexeril 10mg at bedtime; Diovan for blood pressure; Levoxyl for thyroid. I have agreed to do "rescue instillations," but haven't started them yet.

Yikes, thanks for letting us know!! My last UTI cleared up with one course of Cipro, even though I was taking as much prelief as usual, but I'll remember to be more careful in the future.

                      Hi!

Prelief is AkPharma's brand name for calcium glycerophosphate, an over-the-counter supplement made from an FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) mineral.

There are some medications (mainly antibiotics) that may be inhibited by Prelief or any other calcium supplement (and dairy). This information (along with the recommendation to take it at a different time) usually appears on the prescription label and on the Medication Information Sheet. Although this is noted in some of our literature, it is not stated on our package.
