  • Granules vs. Tablets

I did a little experiment with the tablet form, because I felt it wasn't helping. I heated a glass of lemonade to body temp, and put three Prelief tablets in it. They took almost all day to dissolve, and when I tested the liquid with litmus paper, it had barely lost any of its acidity.

I suspect the granules work better because they dissolve ON the food. However, I can't find any in stores. Where can I order some, and does anyone agree that this is a better bet?

The only place to get the granules is by ordering them. The original container is fairly expensive, but it lasts and lasts and lasts. I do prefer the granules for my coffee. I wouldn't try lemonade anyhow so that's not an issue for me. I also carry the tablets in my purse so I can swallow some before I eat away from home.

You know, I dropped a Prelief tablet in about 3 ounces of Coke the other day, and stirred it for about a minute and it wouldn't dissolve either. I wonder though if all the gastric juices in our stomachs just dissolve it better. I can't find grandules either. Maybe I'll order some.

        Hi:

Sorry for this delayed response from AkPharma, but I just got back from vacation!

Lemonade contains a stronger acid that is resistant to change, but we duplicated your experiment in our Quality Control Department and got an 80% acid reduction. The tablets do need to be stirred.

The granulate is the same as the tablets except that the granulate is not compressed. Prelief Granulate removes the acid in the food prior to consumption and Prelief Tablets remove the acid after/while the food is consumed.

Prelief granulate is available direct at www.prelief.com or by phone 1-800-994-4711.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

That's confusing. I did this experiment under the advice of my friend who is a chemical engineer, and I did stir the mixture, plenty. I also heated the lemonade to body temperature.

I'm not sure why we have such different results, but I do plan to try the granules before giving up on Prelief completely.

I haven't mentioned this before, but since it's a topic right now...has anyone noticed how hard it is to get the granules to dissolve. I stir and stir it in my hot coffee and still find the granules at the bottom of the cup.

The way I get them to dissolve is to put the granules in my cup, then pour the hot coffee in, stirring while I pour. There may be a very few granules in the cup, but mostly they dissolve.

Prelief is not soluble in boiling water; therefore with hot beverages it is better to add Prelief at mouth temperature.

'Fraidycat', I really do not know why the difference in the experiment results, but our Quality Control Lab has advised me that they use an Orion pH Meter which is very precise.

Thanks, Betty. I don't know why Prelief isn't soluble in boiling water--I've tried it your way too, Donna, but I always wondered why it all didn't dissolve anyway--now I know just to take a tablet before drinking. Is that what you meant, Betty, when you said it dissolves at mouth temp?

Dont give up on it yet. Everybody is different and has different results I know but Prelief helps me to eat and drink alot of things that before I couldnt touch. Everything but tomatoes...Anyway, I have never tried the granules. I take three tablets with everything that I eat. I had trouble getting Prelief in the beginning - I got it at Walmart and they kept it in the pharmaceutical section behind the counter not out front and they were running out alot, this was after I clued my urologist in on Prelief. Now I get it at Walmart and Kmart both and they keep it stocked on the shelf and I havent thought about it but they dont have the granules. If you talk to the store I am sure that they will be glad to order it for you. I encouraged both stores to stock more of the tablets and they are selling alot of it so it must help some patients - I know that it does me.

                      Kat:

Actually what I meant was to add the granulate to your coffee last, after adding sugar, milk, etc.
At that point the coffee will not be boiling hot. If it is not too hot to put in in your mouth, that is what I meant by mouth temperature.
