• Prevacid

Ok help me please.....I WAS taking Prelief every time I ate or drank. Usual amount for a day is 10 to 12 tablets. I find 3 tablets helped with me not getting any pain. The problem was remembering to take the tablets and then when I was out, to make sure I had some Prelief on me to take when I do eat. So I had a thought about taking Prevacid. I have taken it about a year ago for heartburn and it worked like a charm, so I called my uro and asked him if he would call me in some Prevacid. He gave me 30 mg a day. Now I have to admit I am not taking Prelief and I am not in pain. I have been taking the Prevacid for about 10 days now. Ok is the other shoe going to fall or what?
Thanks for reading. Lisa

Lisa36:

I am not real clear on what you are asking; I cannot comment on Prevacid and what it does, what it does not do nor what the implications of daily and prolonged use might be. I have never heard of Prevacid working in this way but that does not mean that it would be impossible in your case. I suggest you contact the Prevacid manufacturers and ask their comments.

I take Prevacid too. I have been taking it since before IC dx, for ulcers & hiatalhernia. It's an antacid & helps lower the acid in stomach so it helps IC. I do take Prelief if I'm going to eat something "iffy", just to make sure. Hope this answers your question. <img src="graemlins/hi.gif" border="0" alt="[hi]" /> Kathi

I had taken Prevacid for Acid/Reflux and Hiatal Hernia until my insurance sent a letter to my primary physician about not covering it anymore. So now I'm taking some other medication to reduce acid in my stomach. I really did like Prevacid and wish to still take it. I didn't even know til I found this site that reducing Acid helps IC. I am not sure if it helped my IC cuz I never noticed but now I am going to check it out and pay attn to see if these acid reducing meds actually help. I have noticed that a high majority of people with IC also have IBS, and acid reflux/hiatal hernia. I too have all 3 not to mention other health problems.

Don't know about Prevacid, but Tagamet (cimetidine) works for me. And now that you can get it OTC, I just keep it in my purse and use it whenever I know I'm going to be eating something "iffy."

My doctor is fine with this. He said, "If it works, it works!"

I've also heard that Zantac works the same way, but haven't tried it yet.

Seems like all these work to reduce acid, and if it works for you, more power to you!
Hugs,
sweetie

Ladies,
The other shoe fell today. I took my Prevacid this morning, went to do a Diabetes Walk for work and they fed me Pasta and red sauce. I am officially in pain and have been all day. Now the frequency will follow and antibiotics. Well so much for this drug for me at least. I give up.
Thanks for replying. Rather digusted right now.
