Hi, my uro gave me urocit-k to take with each meal. Said that it would take acid out of the urine itself. my only concern is that it is potassium citrate. whenever I see potassium I want to run away..seems to not be good for IC bladders. Have any of you ever used this...and has it helped?? Celeste

Potassium instilled into the bladder is usually painful for IC patients. Potassium ingested in food or medication does not normally have this reaction. And potassium is absolutely essential to life.

I also thought potassium in food was supposed to be bad. I read an article in a magazine once and I think they were quoting Dr. Parsons and they were saying to avoid potassium rich foods. I was confused by that too, because here you hear about acidic foods but not potassium. Comment

There are some potassium rich foods that can be IC triggers, such as bananas and citrus fruits, but it's still possible to get adequate potassium from other foods.
I take a potassium supplement, which was ordered by my physician after I tested dangerously low when I went in the hospital for surgery. I was given IV potassium before they could do the surgery.

Hi!
Potassium is well known as a bladder irritant in sensitive persons. Prelief is formulated without potassium.
Not all potassium is created equal; I suggest you search 'Google' for the particular potassium source that you are taking, to learn more about it.
Hope this is helful.....

I was just put on urocit-k--its a liquid--2 tablespoons 3x's a day mixed with water or juice--nasty nasty nasty tasting stuff--however, I did buy the "ph" test strips for urine acidy--mine tested dangerously high in acidy--now this is after for a month now using "prelief" 8 pills a day. I am not sure if urocit-k is going to work--I dont exactly know when to test my urine--they say it flucuates during the day--I cant answer yet on the urocit-k--will see in about a week--doc wants me to try it for a week--any suggestions would be helpful--thank--Cathy --by the way--can I still take the prelief along with the urocit-k???Comment
