  • Maybe marcaine?

I have been doing twice weekly instills for about 6 weeks and daily for right about 2. I don't feel like overall they are making me worse anymore. But I really can't say they are making me better either. But I am willing to keeping waiting incase it might. I have noticed thought that I do get bladder burning after putting the instill in. It seems like it last for the rest of the day. I asked my uro about switching to marcaine and she said she hasn't used it, but is willing to try it. She also wants me to try a premixed instill from a compounding pharmacy. I don't know what to do!! Anyone have experances?
Current: -pelvic floor therapy, -weekly uracyst instills

    Re: Maybe marcaine?

Yes. I get a pretty nasty burn from instilling Lidocaine. I can use the gel topically for vulvar pain, but putting it into my bladder is awful. I do not have that problem with Marcaine though. I mix a solution in a sterile urine cup: 15cc sterile water, 40,000 units of Heparin, 10cc Marcaine, 5cc Sodium Bicarbonate. My IC is severe, so talk with your urologist to see if this formula would be too strong or just right for you. Ask your doctor how long to hold the solution in your bladder before voiding it out. I did also find that latex free catheters reduce the burn also.
Good luck! Wishing you relief soon, Kadi

      Re: Maybe marcaine?

I was just going to suggest asking your doctor about Marcaine instead of Lidocaine.
