  • Help! I hurt myself!

Today I did my marcaine/heparin self instill and when I removed the catheter blood came with it. Since the instill I have been VERY sore in my urethra and it burns like fire when I pee. I have take 2 pyridium plus tablets for the pain. Everyone is gone from my uro's office until tomorrow. Has anyone had this happen or know what caused it. I am afraid I punctured something or scraped something in my urethra. I use a 2% lidocaine gel before the cath so I didn't feel anything when it happened and nothing seems unusual until I removed the catheter! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

I had one occasion where my urethra bled after a catheterization. It was very brief but my urethra was quite tender and sore. If the blood is still occuring, then I'd definitely see your doc. Also, it may be that you're not using enough lubrication on your catheter. Friction can tear the urethra... so if you're catheter is one of the cheap ones ... you could try using some sterile lubrication to help ease it in. This one reason why the hydrophilic catheters are so popular. They have a water coating that makes them very slick and easy to put into the urethra without damaging it. They are made by Astra Tech.

If it isn't time for your mthly or you dont have one anymore and you are still bleeding i would call the doctor on call at once or go to the er. I know I sometime will see blood when its getting time for my mthly to start or if i'm just stopping i may see some blood but other then that i don't.
I do agree with Jill here.
Medicine taken daily or as needed:
      1. Heaprin and Marcaine rescue installment 1 to 3x daily as needed.
      2. MS.Cotin 100mg 3x daily
      3. MSIR 30mg 1 or 2 every 4-6hrs as needed for breakthrew pain.
      4. Fentanyl 100 mg Change every 48hrs.
      5. Gentamicin 80mg install after each rescue treatment
5 Leviquin 500mg self start as needed.
      6. Klonopin 1 or 2 daily as needed.
      7. Prosed/DS as 1 every 6hrs as needed.

I have IC, but IC doesn't have me anymore!

Thanks! The bleeding has stopped now - I am going to skip my instill today to give things time to heal. I had a hysterectomy in 1999 so thank goodness that is one less thing I have to worry about! I do use the hydrophilic catheters made by Astra Tech. They are called LoFric Plus and are SUPER slippery. They even make one that is longer especially for those of us who are using them to instill medication. Thanks for your replys.
