  • DMSO Treatments help

Just typed a huge post and then lost it!! Earlier todaym I posted mys tory on newly diagnosed, but I really need advice on DMSO, rimso treatments.
Had the usual bladder problems for yrs, had more frequent flare ups starting in sept. Bad one started on 12/21. Saw emerg room dr on Xmas day.
He suspected IC, so I looked it up and started the elim diet. Saw urologist on Jan 5, had cystoscopym, biopsy and distention on Jan 7--it was absolutely awful. Bladder shut down for a fe days, in hospital overnight, sent home with cath, bck to emerg room to have cath removed. Now dr ants to start me on Rimso. Am taking Elmiron, Detrol LA. Reluctantly gave me toredol and percoset for pain but niether help. am doing So so.

More moderate flareups now. Am scared the Rimso will make it worse--I feel like I am hanging on by a thread & I am scared to try anything that may ake it worse.

Also, how do yo convince dr that you need pain meds? The dr that was on call for my dr after the procedure o Jan 7, would Not prescribe anything for pain, cuz he didn't want to turn me into a "dope fiend". Told me to try yoga and mediation. I was onthe verge of passing out I was in so much pain and my body almost in convulsions. This is a big concern. My family dr gave me a few vicodan to get me thru til my appt on Jan 5. That seemed to helpe me sleep. I only took them when I went to bed.
Any advice on Rimso and pain meds is gratly appreciated. ALso, is Rimso for flareups or to treat IC? Not sure if I should still have it if I am not having a flare up on Jan 30? Or does it help heal the bladder and prevent flareups?

    God Bless you all,
    Stacy

DMSO helps some people. I will be going in for my monthly DMSO treatment this morning. My experience was that the first few treatments were very painful, but now they are only a little uncomfortable.

If your doctor will not order even short term pain meds, it may be time to think about a change.

    Warm healing thoughts,
    Donna

A doctor who does not offer pain management to IC patients should not be treating them.

        Find a real doctor.

I just finished my 10th DMSO treatment. With each treatment I've had less and less pain. Although for the treatment and the following 12 hrs I need pain medication (vicodin generic in my case) or the pain is too much. Be assertive and if need be try another doctor. I'm on my 5th urologist so far and she's been very good. I also take amitryptiline 25 mg which helps me sleep good at night. Well wishes!

I would definately try another Uro. My Uro. is treating my pain and I have even asked for a referral to the pain clinic if he decides to ever stop treating my pain. I am lucky that he wants to continue treating my pain. He just upped my Percs. to 60 bc of some tolerance and bad flares.....you need to have a Uro. that will treat your pain. Good luck

After a year of pain so severe I could not work or do my normal activities my uro sent me to a pain specialist. I was very nervous, thinking just another dr., etc. However, he was very familiar with ic, treats many ic patients and said there are many options to treat ic pain. Oh, what music to my ears!

My point is keep searching for the dr. that will satisfy your needs and treat you the way you feel you need to be treated. No one needs to suffer like us ic'ers. Don't accept anything less. Good luck, please keep us informed.
