Chlorpactin is an outdated treatment because it tends to cause a lot of pain, even after the procedure is over. It also increases the risk of complications from the cystoscopy/hydrodistension. It is rarely done anymore.
My first urologist wanted to do this for me with my diagnostic cysto/hydro. I turned it down & found a new urologist.

You don't mention if you have tried any other IC treatments... There are many oral medications & more soothing instillation medications to try. I'd definitely get a second opinion before doing this procedure as it is scheduled now.

Let us know what you decide & how you are doing, okay?

Hi! I had Chlorpactin done a year ago. They did it while I was under. I remember waking up with some pain, but not anything near as bad as what I felt after my regular cysto/hydro that I'd had a couple months earlier. I didn't notice a real improvement right away, but uro said that was because I got a UTI right afterwards. I started Elmiron and Elavil in September (and a strict IC diet) and by December I was pretty much symptom free. I was doing pretty good (maybe 1-2 flares a month and able to eat so much more!!!) for about 3mons. I'm still doing well, but I have went off of the Elavil and Elmiron because I'm trying to get pregnant. A few more flares, but nothing near what it was like last year this time! My uro thinks that the combo of the meds and the Chlorpactin is what has helped me so much, I think so too. After the baby if my symptoms are bad and the meds alone won't help I will definetly have another Chlorpactin treatment done. Hope this helps!!!! Good Luck!

thank you for the info. i'm calling my doctor now to let them know- no no on the chlorpactin- but i'm gonna do the cysto/hydro, just to makes sure my bladders good other than ic. i'm gonna check & see if after i heal than we can do the chlorpactin treatments. just got off the phone with the doc. office- they said that he wont do the chlorpactin/ hopeful he respects my wishes, cause i already signed a consent form, b4 finding this wedsite & they said i dont need another one, they said he just wont do it??? i feel that he knows what he's doing, can only hope for the best, and expect the worse. well they just called me back to say it's all or nothing as far as the chlorpactin goes, saying either get it done under or not at all, soooo wow that tells me he's deff. not using the proper amount recommened cuz he should be able to do it like a regular instill(in his office) if used properly- if i did my research right. told them nope, dont feel good about it. hopeful the hydro helps me, i only have frequency/urgency & NO pain, trying to keep the NO pain! i have bee on the ic diet which is helping some!! i have tried vessacare, detrol, sistopaz(sp?)( my gyn had me try them) but nothing on any? ?? but i heard elmiron & envile(sp?) have help a good percentage, so i think he should of started me on them, when he planed to after the hydro- still dont make much since to me?? aaahhhhh
MEME so happy to hear it worked for you, i wish i was a brave as you, but i dont feel like i've explored other less harsh treatments. and hopefully & congrats is in order soon!!!
well wish me luck, 1st hydro on friday, soooooooooo scared.
