  • Anyone tried Uracyst??

Hi, my urologist prescribed an installation called uracyst. He told me to do one installation per week for six weeks, then once a month for a few years. The first three weeks I didn't notice anything, but immediately after the fourth and fifth installation my symptoms became worse than ever.

I called my urologist and he won't talk to patients on the phone unless it's an emergency, and I can't get an appointment for another month.

I don't know whether I should continue the installations or not! Is it normal for symptoms to get worse before they get better?

    Please help!

    Ashley

I've never heard of a uracyst install either but if you do a search on it you'll see some past posts. I only went back a few.

I haven't tried it, but it sounds like you might have an infection. I think it would be a good idea to be checked. You could call your doctor's office and ask if you can drop off a urine sample.

          uracyst

Yes, I've had six Uracyst instillations, once a week. It made my symptoms worse , especially right afterward.

          Sending warm thought.

            Hi,

Uracyst is chondroitin sulfat, sold as Uropol in Germany/Europe. I get it since 2005 and it helps my smptoms. It took a long time until it helped, but it does. I would definitely check for an infection...maybe you are allergic to something??
I'm german, diagnosed september 2005 with mild IC. Current meds: Elmiron, Uropol-S, IC diet.

Thanks for your comments. I know I don't have an infection. To those of you who are on/or have tried uracyst: did your urologists say it was normal for symptoms to be worse before getting better? My bladder feels more irritated and sore after the installation, and takes longer to settle down again.

                uracyst instils

                Hi Ashley,

Yes, I had a lot of irritation after the instil. I think mine was more urethra irritation. My uro didn't say either way. All I knew is it didn't help me and I was in worse pain. But that doesn't mean it won't help you. Who knows? Maybe I didn't try it for long enough. I only had six, but I just couldn't stand the pain so I tried something else, Elavil and Elmiron. I'm off the Elmiron for three weeks now and take 10 or 20 mgs of Elavil in the evening and I feel pretty good most of the time.

Wishing everyone a pain free day!
