  • distention+silvernitrate?

In May I had the distention procedure done with Silver Nitrate. After healing, I had a good couple months before a flare. I had my second flare in October. Now it seems like my body has gone right back to the way it was before the distention. Is this normal? I was told this procedure would provide atleast a year of relief. I'm about 30K in debt right now because of medical. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone live in the Austin area who is willing to chat over some water? I'm feeling a little jaded and lost.

    Hi,
When I was diagnosed in late 1974, silver nitrate was used for instills when I was in the hospital. It was very painful and I didn't get that much relief from the procedure.

Silver Nitrate is not used much anymore. It is one of the older treatments and there are other ones out there that could work better. If you read through the handbook on this site you can see the different options. There is also a very good book for sale on this site by Dr. Moldwin called The Interstitial Cystitist Survivial Guide. I even took that with me to my Dr. visit.

I wish you well and hope you find something that works soon.

I was also treated with silver nitrate for several years after being diagnosed in 1975. My uro followed up the hospital silver nitrate with instillations of the same substance in his office --- I was treated once a month. It actually helped me, but when I had a treatment it was painful for at least a full day.

If the hydrodistention helped you significantly, you might discuss having another --- I have had hydros done every six months to 22 months since diagnosis and they still help.

      Sending healing thoughts,
      Donna
