Has anyone experiences hair loss from using heparin in a bladder instill? I use it everyday and now I am experiencing the same hair loss - thinning - that I had when I took elmiron. Any ideas??
Thanks!

I think i would ask my doctor or drug store. if you can't find the information on the net.

I, too, am having a problem with hair loss.
I had surgery on Nov 12,which may be adding to the problem (they say around 12 weeks after surgery the stress on the body can cause hair loss).
I am taking Elmiron (400 mg per day) and just
finished my 4th DMSO/heparin instill.
To compound the problem I had gastric bypass surgery in Aug of 2000, am supposed to take multivitamins every day, but have been unable to as they irritate my bladder. That with sticking
on the IC diet, my overall nutrition is terrible.
I am sure that is not helping at all.
As soon as I get my bladder pain more under control I am going to try my vitamins again.
Take care,
Stacy
p.s. I have thought alot about the hair loss issue, and it seems like if elmiron works for a person it is a really really good thing. So if that's what's causing my hair loss, I decided I would rather wear a wig and have less or no bladder pain.
I've thought alot hair loss too...I'm not a vain person. If you've ever met me in person you'd know that...(Hell I went to college in Eugene, OR...University of Oregon) Anyway....When Elmiron Made my hair come out in clumps all I could think is what the hell is this doing to the rest of my bod???I tend to be bit in the naturalistic side of things...(ok...yes...I certainly want my morphine and valium) and have to say one body system going wrong indicates a problems elsewhere so what does that hairloss indicate (For me?) I know lot of folks tolerate it fine, and that's great, but I don't think folks are necessarily vain if they drop it when they lose their hair...something scary happens in your gut and you reliaze, deep down that something ain;t right! NEED TO STOP is the instict.

Yes, I experienced hair loss while I was taking bladder instillations with Heparin, but I was also taking Elmiron at the same time. Since I have stopped both the instillations and the Elmiron my hair is thickening again. I do have a thyroid condition, but that was not the problem that was causing the hair loss. I took the Elmiron for nearly a year, and decided I could live without it as it did not seem to make all that difference in my pain level.
