  • Bladder Instillations and what to expect?

    Hi,
Like many of you on here I am getting off Elmirion, I have one to go and am recently going through a med change for my mental health. I am taking some time off work to sort myself out and hopefully get some additional help with my bladder. I am also trying to slowly wean off Noretriptyline as I have been using it for pain management, so far I have had mild pain but nothing major, and am only down 15 mg, I plan to go down 5 mg every two weeks and get off the drug completely if possible, it does not agree with my body. Recently had urodynamics done, not knowing either the purpose or what was involved. My bladder is able to hold a normal amount of urine, but is extremely sensitive to becoming full. I have been recommended various medications that I am not comfortable with including Botox. I am wondering if it is a safe idea to do bladder instillations, as far as I know it would be a rescue instillation. I am concerned about pain afterwards and possible UTI's. I would really like to hear if instillations are a good choice and also what to expect? I am not going to go back on Elmirion as the risks are too scary for me. I am using good supplements and they help, but don't take away frequency, bladder pressure or mild pain. Hope someone responds
    Thanks

A lot of ICers are being helped by instillations. It's been a while since I had them, but they did help. I learned to do them at home, which was very convenient for me. I'm retired now, which lowered my stress level significantly --- and I'm doing really well just following my diet closely. It's possible to get a UTI from an instillation --- I had only one when I did them twice daily for many months. It's important to keep things as sterile as possible. If you decide to do self instillations, you will get detailed instructions.

    Sending well wishes,
    Donna
