  • natural anti-inflammatory

hi everyone, I have tried a natural enzyme anti-inflammatory, called SERRATIO PEPTIDASE which was highly recommeneded to me by 3 urologists in europe when I was visiting, which seems to be helping my flare ups. They told me it is used for inflamation of joints, tissues, etc. It is popular in europe, but not as much in the usa. I did find it available online though. Maybe it can help some others as well. Just thought I would mention it!

Can you tell me more about this enzyme? Can one buy it in health stores or pharmacies? Where online did you find it? Sounds like it might also help with other conditions. Thanks, Tilly

Another natural Anti-histimine (for those of us with mast cell probs) is Quercetin. You can take up to like 1500 mg. but since I also take atarax I only take 500. The nice thing is it is not sedating. When I dropped my atarax dose to help with the sedation I added in the Quercetin. Did not notice at that time an increase in pain. (That was like 3 months ago)

        Medications I CURRENTLY take:
        90 mgs Ms contin (45 mgs Am/PM)
        Percocet as needed
        Topomax 100mg day
        Ambien 10 mg bed
        desipramine 25 mgs

I've had excellent results since early December when I started taking 1000 mg of Quercetin and 1500 mg of Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM each day.

I quit taking Elmiron about a week after I started taking these supplements and haven't felt the need to take it since then. I believe these supplements work just as well (or better) than the Elmiron did, and they are much cheaper and also help the minor arthritis pains that I used to have in my wrists, feet, neck, and lower back.

debeck....that is so cool. I've thought about going up on the quercitin but don't want to overdo it. I also take the other supplements as well.

            Good luck -T

Aren't there a number of medicines and foods that you can't take with quercetin or am I thinking of something else? It doesn't cause a flare? I thought that if you take it, you are fairly limited in your diet (even more so than the IC diet) and restricted as to certain meds. Thanks!

I dont think quercetin is something that has a lot of interactions. St. Johns wort does, as do some other herbs/supplements. Quercetin is considered a bioflavanoid. It is usefull for allergies and is an anti~histamine, but should be taken for at least six~8 weeks to see results.

Quercetin is absorbed well with the help of Vitamin C. That may be the source of a flare for some of us; look for JUST quercetin or quercetin with Ester C.

                Hope this helps!

Did not know Vitamin C is problem~uh-oh I've been taking 1000mg /day since oct just to keep the nasty flu germs away (or whatever) because I can't get the shots. I haven't been "sick" (Like coughing, fluey stuff) when it's passed around our family 3 times this year, despite my heavy duty bleaching. I can't help but think the vit. c helps with that..but it could also be making my symptoms awful. Maybe I'll stop for a week and see what happens.

                  Thanks for the info/

You may want to try Ester~C. This is not simply ascorbic acid (vit. c) and may ease your symptoms some. Or, you may want to do a trial off the C all together to see if you get better, and THEN do a trial of Ester~c.

                    Hope this helps,

CystoProtek (www.Algonot.com or 1-800-254-6668) contains Quercetin, Chondroitin, Glucosamine, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Kernel Olive Oil Extract. It may help to recoat the lining of the bladder and reduce inflammation.

CystoProtek has helped many patients with Fibromyalgia, IBS, Vulvodynia, Chronic Prostatitis, and Arthritis.

A word of warning for those taking Chondroitin - most available chondroitin sold in the US comes from cow trachea, typically imported from Europe. There is a risk of contracting mad cow disease. The chondroitin in CystoProtek is derived from shark cartilage.

I suggest that you consult with your healthcare provider if you believe that the information above may be helpful; your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate treatment regimen for you.
