  • Peppermint Oil

A friend of mine with IBS told me that she rubs pure peppermint oil on her stomach to help with the spasms.

I'm in the midst of a flare, and today is particularly rough. I'm seeing the Uro tomorrow for the first time here (relocated here last year), but if this is helpful, would love to get some today.

Has anyone used this? I'm afraid to excarbate the pain any if this is a bad treatment for IC.

Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it. Right now I'm on Pyridium Plus and Hydrocodone.

Typically flare every few years badly, but is tolerable otherwise.
Related conditions: Diagnosed with endometriosis in 1998, IBS in 1997, have dry eye/dry mouth (not from medications), and unrelated, I have asthma.

    Medications:
Vistaril (seems to be working wonderfully!)
    Urelle Plus as needed
    Cystoprotek
    Hydrocodone as needed

Medications that didn't work for me:
    Elmyron
Pyridium Plus -- worked great, but dried my eyes and mouth severely (they are already dry)

I take peppermint oil every single day and if anything I am sure it helps. Never bothered me ....but it does work best to take significantly before you eat which can be a bit bothersome at times.

I used to rub peppermint oil on my forehead for my migraines. Helped to ease the tension. Don't see why it wouldn't work, might burn though, I put Bengay on my stomache once for cramps....OUCH!!! It burned so bad, and then when you try to wash it off, it just keeps getting hotter.

That got me thinking...I never used it topically only orally so always watch out for whatever else is in the brand you use....when I do make herbal topical treatments I think it can be safer to make your own...or buy from copany that you trust...the IBS one is what I take orally so if she makes a topical one I suspect it won't have anything bad in it but I haven't checked myself yet.
