  • Parasites, Candida & Bentonite

I've been doing some research on the whole leaky gut thing and have some questions. This is the only theory that seems to match most of my symptoms. Parasites don't seem to have been addressed on this board. A search on the forum only listed 3 threads that mentioned the word 'parasites'. Also, parasites like alkiline environments.

I've read that anti-candida treatments do kill candida, but do nothing to kill parasites (which most of us have w/o symptoms - everything from giardia to worms). My research indicates parasites live very happily with Candida in the intestines and can contribute significantly to IBS. Parasite symptoms often mirror IBS and IC symptoms.

I read about some IC symptom reduction with things like probiotics, oxygen, grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano and MSM. All have anti-parasitic qualities. Parasites do not like oxygen.

    Here are my questions:

    1. Has anyone ever done an anti-parasite treatment along with an anti-candida treatment?
    2. Is it essential to eliminate carbs, eggs and dairy during these treatments?
    3. If yes to #1, did you try alternative or prescribed medication and what were the results?
    3. Has anyone ever followed up either of these with a colon cleansing with bentonite? I read bentonite is great at cleansing the colon of the toxic properties (candida & parasites) and as a final stage of clearing the body of these suckers that hide in mucus.
    4. Has anyone ever done any colonic irrigation and had IC/IBS symptoms reduce?
    5. Am I nuts to want to do this any of the above?

Thanks for any and all comments and information! I will try just about anything to get rid of this horrible problem.
    Carol

Have you discussed this with your doctor? Fortunately parasites are fairly easy to identify --- if you suspect you have them, ask to be tested. There are also effective treatments to get rid of them. Usually the way to get them is from infested water.

Pork, beef, and fish also have worms and other parasites in them. The ground can have parasites, water, any number of places to "catch" them.

One good way to get rid of them or to help, without using chemicals, is a cleanse. If you are interested I can give you some info through pm's.

Moonheart is correct. Meats, especially pork, chicken, and most fish, need to be thoroughly cooked to make them safe.

I afraid standard medical tests are not definitive on the presence or type of parasites. They are great at hiding in mucous and are not just from meat but can be in fruits, vegetables and water. I've done a great deal of international travel so I just want to rule it out. I've learned we can carry them for years with no symptoms until a traumatic experience happens. Unfortunately I've had a lot of traumatic experiences in the last two years! AAAARRRGH.

Thanks ICNDonna, I may go to my doc at some point, but would like to try a natural old fashioned method first.

Moonheart, please do PM me on your method of natural cleanses. I would like to learn as much as possible about them - particularly bentonite combinations.

I really wrote the thread to ask if anyone had had these issues or tried these treatments with any success and what the effects were. Has anyone tried these treatments (yeast and parasite) in conjunction whether they were tested or not?

Actually I did have a parasitic infection - the parasites were found in our well water and we installed an ultraviolet filter on our well. My infection was diagnosed by my physician, who prescribed the medication that got rid of the parasites.

                  Interesting stuff...

Moonheart, could you PM the info about cleanses, etc.. If I could rid myself of something, anything....it would be great! Years ago, a gastro dr. said I had those H-Pylori(sp?) in my gut. Speaking of yucky parasites, etc..did anyone see the episode of "House" where Dr. House pulled the huge tapeworm out of his patient's gut? Not something to watch during dinner.

I saw that House episode and it was pretty gross!
I understand what you are saying about parasites and if you have them then you need the proper attention. I once had Giardia and had to go on Flagyl for it. I also picked up something in Punta Cana once and wound up in the hospital on IV because I was so dehydrated. I was given a course of antibitoics and it finally resolved itself. I decided to do a para-cleanse on my own and bought something at Whole Foods. Boy, did it kill my bladder!! I was in agony with whatever was in the ingredients. I also went through a period of colonics and found that in the long run they really did not help my IC.
I would check all the ingredients on whatever cleanse you decide to do and also run it by your dr. You don't want to flare from it.

From my personal experience: they call it a high colonic because the more you do them and learn how to hold water....the higher you can go.
I've done series of them in the past (like 25 years ago) to remove toxins and was ok with them. When I started up again with them about 7 years ago I ran into problems because of abdominal adhesions. I tried again a few years ago (after adhesion removal surgery) and still ran into problems so I don't do them anymore!

I think it would be a good idea to talk with your doctor before doing high colonics. Unless you do it as a very clean procedure, you may be introducing more harmful bacteria than you are getting rid of.

Thanks Moonheart for the cleansing information. So you haven't tried a cleanse yourself? Not the colonics, but just the regular kind?

It has ingredients I didn't expect but I'm researching them.

So nobody has tried bentonite. I read so many good things about it, I was hoping to find someone who has tried it before. It's a little weird to drink a mixture of volcanic clay ash and water! They have it at the Vitamin Shoppe called Sonne's No 7 or 9 or something like that.

Yes, ICNDonna I'll check with one of my docs on this.

                              Moonheart,
I noticed that your signature reads weak Marshmallow Root Tea. Is that because you've flared from it?
I once let it sit in my cup tooooooooooo long and flared immediately afterwards. I now make sure I do a quick dunk or 2 of the infusion ball and that's it. Sometimes my bladder is so angry that I can only have hot water with honey
                              Mel
