How Much Baking Soda Should I Mix With H20 To Help Alleviate Burning? Has Anyone Had Success With This? Does It Help With Frequency?

  • #2
I forget, but it should say it right on the box how much to mix. If you don't find it let me know and I will find it. I think it helps with the burning but I don't think it helps with the frequency. I've only tried it a couple of times now and it did seem to help a little with the burning. Feel better.

Baking soda is fantastic. It really calmed my inflamed bladder down. No more burning or swelling. Of course, you should increase you water intake, too. I drink a little more than 2 quarts a day.

The dose is 1/2 teaspoon, but I can't remember if it is 4oz or 8oz of water. 8 sounds like a lot. You can find it here somewhere on the site. I do baking soda when I know I've eaten something I shouldn't have, and if I feel urethral burning coming on and it quells it fast!!! I sometimes think I'd be a good candidate for sodium bicarb instills!!

I have high blood pressure so soda is not a good idea for me. I find Tums to be a good alternative.

Baking soda definitely helps me if my bladder is "cranky" and I can't sleep. It calms it (I don't have much burning, more of an inflamed, pressury feeling) within about half an hour. I use about 1/3 tsp in 6 ozs water. Baking soda helps more than a lot of the expensive prescription meds!...go figure.

Bicarb soda has been fantastic for me.It is what makes life bearable. Whenever I have breakthrough pain, usually in the evening, I take 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon in around 150mls /6oz of water and with in 20mins I get relief. I don't think it matters if it 6, 8 or 12 ozs as long as it dilutes the bicarb.

I tried to take it (1/2 tsp in 8oz water... very dilute) and it was so disgusting for me that I gagged on it and spit it out as it partially went down my esophagus. At least I tried it...

The first time I tried it I felt the same way. The second time, I uses room temp water and was able to drink it fast and am getting used to it! Good luck!
