  • How do you know when to discontinue?

I've been trying supplements based on the advice of my gyn and nutritionist because I've been flaring for several months. Admittedly, I've been only so-so adherent to the IC Diet, which is something I've remedied now!

I've just started Curcumin supplements (turmeric root) because it's supposed to be a good anti-inflammatory and my doc read an article about how it could be useful for IC. The pain popped back up only a day after my last rescue instill (two days after starting the curcumin).

I've also recently changed anti-depressants - how do you really know if an experimental treatment is helping, harming, or not even involved? I want to be proactive in getting my pain level down, but don't want to be inadvertently damaging my bladder and making the pain worse. How do you decide to stop a treatment or stick with it?

Maybe start a detatiled IC/PFD journal? That helped me a lot. I still keep one. Document everything you do and how you feel after. Always do one thing at a time.

    Good luck.

I think the diet is extremely important. The only way I know to figure out what is helping is to keep a food/drink/symptom diary. That way you know if adding something isn't okay. It can take a long time for supplements to help.
