My doctor has put me on antibiotics for bronchitis but it has been giving me severe diarreha. It has been so bad that I have been forced to take the next three days off of work. Does anyone know if there are any OTCs that will combat this side effect? I have been using Pepto but that isn't helping me. Please help!
Janelle I am a soul whose intentions are good.
Oh Lord please don't let me be misunderstood.
There are anti-diarrheal medications over the counter that will stop that right away. I can't remember the name off hand, but ask the pharmacist and they will point you in the right direction.
My doctor recommends immodium, but you should check with yours to be sure it's okay for you.

Anyone who says something is foolproof hasn't met a determined fool
I had bronchitis from the flu and had to go on an antibiotic too. Since I have IBS it usually gets bad after a couple days. A natural alternatives store in Greensboro carries really good probiotics and they suggested Culturelle, a probiotic. There are several types of culturelle, but you can take it 2-3 times a day and it reestablishes the friendly bacteria that has gotten knocked out by the antibiotic. They suggested taking it about an hour after taking the anti.-also take it before you go to bed. You can get it at Whole Foods, some Natural Food Stores and CVS and Wal Mart carry the lowestl evel-least expensive one. It's expensive but helps with gas, flatulance and diarrhea. Best wishes and God Bless-Susan
I'm currently studying probiotics for my research. I am a microbiologist, well almost. hehe. If anyone has any questions about them, feel free to message me!
I believe in the use of probiotics anytime you are on antibiotics of if you have irritable bowel symptoms. I take one called Megaflora that has 20 billion units of 14 different strains. I also take Culturelle and Saccharomyces boulardii. Even mainstream doctors are recommending probiotics for many intestinal problems.
There is also a new probiotic for urogenital health. It is called FemDophilus and is made by Jarrow and sold through Provitaminas.com. It establishes a healthy amount of lactobacilli in the vagina and helps prevent pathogenic bacteria from colonizing. This protects the bladder from invasion also. This was developed by Dr. Gregor Reid of the University of Western Ontario who has done much research on urogenital problems such as bacterial vaginosis. If you Google him you will find many published articles he has written and he is one of the foremost researchers in the area of probiotics.
