  • Penicllin

I have been flaring on and off for a few months. I had to go on 2000 mg a day of penicllin for a gum infection. After a day of taking the penicillin, my bladder feels better than it has in over a month. During my flare ups, sometimes I take cipro for a couple of days, because the urine test shows white cells, but the penicllin worked better. Is it because that penicllin has anti inflammatory properties?

    Thanks for your help.

It could be the anti inflammatory properties in the antibiotic.

I always noticed a decrease in bladder irritation for the first two days of being on an antibiotic for something other than my bladder. The decrease in bladder irritation never lasted though for more than a few days. I never thought of using an antibiotic to break a bad flare- interesting, it's a thought.

For some reason, antibiotics always help alot. But of course my doctor doesn't want me taking them regularly. Right now I am hoarding the few extra Levaquin she gave me for "emergencies" when I might be out of town or she is unavailable.
