  • BCG and allergies

    Hi All,

Quick question...has anyone's allergies changed since BCG? I have been having the wierdest (and itchiest) skin allergies since then. Whenever I weed wack or hedge clip, my arms look like poison ivy (it is not). Like my skin is really sensitive now. Allergies and immune system are related. BCG, IC, and immune system are related. Any one else with weird things after?

Funny that you mention it, I did BCG last spring and have (albeit mild) allergies now which I've never had before -- lots of sneezing, and itchiness -- eyes, ears, skin. I never made the connection but maybe you're on to something. I also developed a hypersensitivity to the taste, smell, and texture of food, so much so that previously enjoyable food now seems kind of gross. I'm not sure how that developed -- I think maybe because I felt so sick during the BCG (flu stuff) and not too hungry most of the time, my body just developed an aversion to a lot of foods.

      Debra,

I do know that food aversions can develop with one time being sick or whatever. Tell me more about your allergy sort of symptoms. I am calling my primary care tomorrow to see if he will skin test me again. I always had mild allergies. With mild skin sensitivity. But something is really reacting on my skin--something in the barn, or everything in the barn. And it goes through my sweat pants--have begun getting red welts on my legs now. Probably I will get some antihistime, which I would gladly take rather than itching head to toe. I just wonder what the connection is.

        Hi Nancy,

Most of the time, I just have a lot of sneezing (doesn't seem to be in reaction to anything in particular), also almost constant eye, ear, and nose itchiness (though, that may be related to dryness, as I also just started taking Ditropan XL).

One strange thing that has been happening is that if I go for a walk outside (and not all the time), I will get very severe (almost painful and definitely unbearable) itchiness on my thighs, which will turn into raised redness (that may be from the scratching, though) It goes away soon after I get back inside. I don't know what it is that does it, it doesn't always happen, but is just this fall. I'd be interested in hearing what your doctor tells you.

        Good luck!
        Debra
