  • Does Botox help with pressure and frequency?

    Hi All,

Elmiron and good diet has eliminated most of the burning pain inside my bladder that used to torment me. My understanding is that the burning is what most urologist prescribe botox to treat, but my current uro wants to use botox to try to deal with a different symptom:

My current problem is a chronic urge to urinate that goes from zero right after I urinate, to a mild pressure 10 minutes after I urinate, to an uncomfortable pressure 30 minutes after I urinate, to pain after about an hour. That pain can escalate to intolerable from one to three hours after I urinate. Under the best circumstances I often find it difficult to urinate, and impossible to urinate when I'm away from home (just can't get the muscles to relax enough--any tension at all is enough to keep me from urinating).

My current urologist wants to inject my bladder with Botox in order to improve this symptom. Is it likely to do that? Is there anywhere I can find out more about this unusual procedure? I've gone ahead and scheduled the botox for eight days from today, simply because I haven't improved in a couple of years, and without improvement my life is terribly limited.

I've had progress from it. Not 100%, but better than before. Harder to empty, but worth it. I have a shy bladder, which makes it harder in public and sometimes I just wait till I get home to go. Did you end up getting the procedure done?

With all the pain in the world comes love and hope.. For someday they will find the cures for all the pain we suffer and just take it all away and we can again be pain free and enjoy life.. and remember those who suffer the same pains and sorrows are usually the ones with the most understanding hearts
      Hugs and Loves

I did, and it didn't seem to help. It's six weeks later and things are better, though I attribute that to Paradoxical Relaxation as developed by a Dr. Wise of Stanford. I had no improvement as of two weeks after the Botox, and it's my understanding that when that's the case, it hasn't worked.

        Best of luck to you.

Please do, Melinda, and my best wishes to you. Have you had the chance to try to remarkable range of things that are out there, including drugs, diet, physical therapy, relaxation work, and so on?

Sorry the botox hasn't been the solution for you. Who is Dr. Wise at Stanford? I haven't heard of him in urology, is he in pain management? Do you recommend him/her? My experience at Stanford so far has been extremely frustrating, I'm just about to make a threat about it. I'd love to hear about someone there who actually helps!
