botox when there is no bladder

ive had my bladder out for yrs but still have chronic vagial and retum pain, 24/7 i wonder if botox in the vaginal walls r how ever would help. id try it for sure

I have no idea, but the rectal pain drives me nuts and I have yet to find anything to help easy it.

Luckliy for me I don't get it too often.

It feels like I am sitting on a baseball, or have it in my rectum.

Botox is not an option for me as I have severe urinary retention.

I am now self cathing. So once I get the hang of this maybe botox will be an option. I was told I could not use it as it would make my retention worse, but if I have to cath to go whats the difference.

I had really good success with botox for migraines.

Keep us posted if you find anything out about this option for you.

Just a thought: if botox causes retention in the bladder for some people, would it cause the muscles in the bowel not to work propperly and cause constipation.

Each time I had it for migraine I could raise my eyebrows for 3 mons, just in time to get it again.

having said that C seems to go with IC for a lot of people so if you have to treat that already would it make any difference.

personal experience

I have had botox done & it has been quite helpful as far as any of the treatments that i have tried. I suffer from retention & although the first 2 weeks or so the botox causes a little more difficulty in voiding, it wears off & the relief outweighs this side effect. botox is not permanent...

I know that everyone worries about retention & having to self cath for the rest of their lives with this treatment, but i think its important to remember that if done correctly, the treatment can be a success. I can't say that everyone should try this treatment, but im just simply saying that weighing the options a little further, and looking past the retention aspect, there can be quite a benefit from this.

I say if you are debating on doing any sort of treatment because you "heard" and read and so on and so on, it might be a whole lot simplier if you just kept an open mind rather than completely wiping off botox from the list of things to "try"...just my two cents.

I don't know if this helps anyone, but I'm very sensitive to urine retention. I however haven't had it since the botox injections 2 and a half months to go. It's harder to empty though.

Botox injections

I am scheduled to have the botox injections on thursday .. I am worried because lately I have had to have many different times of having foley caths in because I could not pee at all one time my bladder got so bad it had 900 cc's of fluid in it talk about severe kill me now pain.. but now they have thought me how to self cath and that does help at some points however the pain I feel on a daily basis is horrible right now they have me on valuim suppository gel which seems to help (most days.. BUT NOT TODAY ) other than that I am nervous about how my body will react to this medicine as I have weird reactions to alot of things.. such as when the doc did the last instill on me of lidocaine and sodium bicarobonate it sent me so far back and into so much pain..that is when the doc started the valuim.. so i am scared to death as to how I will react to the botox on thursday... praying it helps because honestly I AM DONE

georgecoolname-- your name sounds like male--me also. you mentioned sensitive to urine retention--if you did not urinate for a bit (no toilet around), did you ever go in retention and have to self cath? Do you know exactly where you had botox injected? if in bladder: lower portion or upper? I am told by Drs it makes a difference--apparently lower often works best, but not certain. Assume injections were in bladder--if not, where? Many thanks!

My daughter has been suffering from IC for over 2 years. She has severe pelvic pain. She does not have urgency, but rather retention. At the beginning of August, she had Botox injections in her vaginal area. It HELPED! She had her 2nd round of injections last Monday. This has not been a cure-all. It has made it possible for her to function. She does have terrible opiate caused constipation and is on Amitiza and Relistor. It takes that combination to work. Thank goodness for them though because nothing else worked.
She is on several medications, but there is another thing that is new to us that has helped - compounded creams. A pharmacist friend told me about them and sent information with me to her doctor. These are creams that helps with pain in her legs, arms, hips, and she also rubs it on her tummy where her bladder is. It does not have the side effects as medicine taken by mouth.
I pray that this will help someone to find a little relief. I have been an avid reader for the past 2 years trying to find any ideas that might help.
