    Could Adderall be making my IC worse? Burning urethra!

    Hello,

    I posted this a little earlier, but I left one big factor out: I take Adderall, between 45mg to 60mg daily....

    I was diagnosed with IC just last week after suffering for two months, and my doctor put me on several medications: Elmiron, Uribel, Amitriptyline, Hydroxyzine HCL, and Prelief tablets--all of which I have been taking religously. (He also prescribed an antibiotic called Nitrofurantoin Macro to take after intercourse.) My pain is not as bad as it was, however my urethra is extremely irritated NON-STOP, EVERYDAY, ALL THE TIME. I am beginning to go nuts.

    Does anyone out there have some advice for me? Is there another medication available for an inflamed urethra? (I have cut out all coffee and tea and sodas from my diet, and avoid anything with citric acid in it.) The medicines I have been prescribed aren't helping the urethra irritation one bit.

    Could my Adderall be making my symptoms worse? I'd HATE to quit taking it because it helps me so much.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    In a word, I believe YES

    Search through this forum and you'll find that most of us that take an amphetamine take Dextroamphetamine sulfate. It has less "salts" than Adderall. Some can tolerate Dex better. Talk to your doc and see if he'll let you try Dex. Good luck. J

      Yes, I'm 99% sure it's the Adderall. It's what made my IC a lot worse, I was screaming in pain for two weeks, it was awfull! The salts are what's causing the trouble...it's like putting salt on an open wound. Ask your doc to switch you to Vyvanse or Dexedrine.

      Other conditions: depression, ADHD, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, IBS-C.

      Medications I'm on: Vyvanse 70mg, Xanax 1 mg as needed, Wellbutrin XL 150 mg, Vicodin 5/500 as needed for pain, Microgestin 1/20 continuously.

      Supplements I'm taking: Chondroitin Sulfate, N-acetyl-glucosamine, MSM 3gr/day, Pancreatin, B-5, Ester-C, and marshmallow root tea

        'Salts' does not mean salt

        There is a difference between 'salts' of a compound and salt like what you put on your food. It is a chemistry term... I"m sorry I can't explain better at the moment.. the narcotics just kicked in...

        FWIW... I take 40 mg of Adderall XR daily and have not found it to exacerbate my IC.
