Has anyone read solving the IC puzzle, about alkalizing (sp?)? Just wonder if it would be worth buying.

    Thanks.

Yes, I have read parts of it. I thought that I might have a problem with acid, then noticed my test results, that I requested from my physician. I found out that my PH is okay, not too low, but acidic foods still bother me.

Try Amazon.com, you might be able to get it used.

I was disappointed with it. I think that there are other books which are much MUCH more balanced on IC... such as the IC Survival Guide.

I don't know that book but I can vouch for the Survivial Guide that Jill mentioned. In fact, I took that book with me to my first appt. with my new uro.

            IC Puzzle

I too have doubts that the alkalizing approach will "cure" IC for many of us. However, my educated guess is that there is likely some benefit that IC patients can receive by taking some of the advice offered in the IC Puzzle book.

For me, I realized that the IC-friendly diet that I had created and have been following is potentially not setting me up for optimal health in the long run. So many people, including myself until recently, eat a diet that is based primarily on processed grains, meats, and sugars. These are not the foods that the human body is biologically designed to consume. We eat them because they are convenient and they satisfy our modern tastes. The fact that humans aren't sick more often than we are is evidence of the resiliancy and fortitude of the typical person's digestive tract.

IC is a chronic condition that probably takes years to develop for most patients. To push it into remission likely will take a long-term approach as well. My take-away from the book is this - even if the alkalizing approach doesn't heal my IC, I will be a healthier and happier person if I shift my diet away from processed junk and emphasize whole, natural foods that my body is genetically engineered to consume.

            Just my two cents.
