I have tried most of the sleeping pills available. I currently take Ambien Cr 12.5mg and Rozerem 8mg. I tried Lunesta 3mg with Rozerem 8mg without success. I have also tried Sonata with no success. I have to take two sleep meds every night because I'm such an insomniac. Most people do not need to take two sleep meds to fall asleep so you will have a hard time convincing your doc to prescribe more than one med at a time. If I had to pick just one sleep med I would pick Ambien CR 12.5mg.

I took Ambien for just a week over 3 years ago, and experienced a few strange (and rare) side effect of sleep eating! It actually was months before I found out that sleeping eating was a side-effect from Ambien. Now, 3 years later!, I am still eating in my sleep.. not every night but often. It's terrible because I can't control what I am eating, I just eat - and a lot of time it's chocolate or other "no-no's" on the IC diet and I get a flare up the following day! It's dreadful.. yes, somewhat funny, but still it's annoying. However I do have to admit that I was laughing pretty hard when I woke up one morning with a half-eaten piece of bread with butter on it attached to my face! And butter all in my hair! YUCK!

I took ambien but don't remember how many mg. Had to be in bed when I took it, was out like a light within 10 mins. Then I would sleep 5 hours solid...and wake up and not be able to get back to sleep.

cat lover 2, I have taken ambien cr in the pass and for a short time they helped. I took straight ambien before "cr" came out. I stopped when they stopped. I will ask my Dr. about taking two kinds as my sleep is very bad, about 2 to 3 hrs at night, wake up for hour or two, then if I am lucky, back to sleep another couple hours. I would love 6 to 8 hours straight sleep. sue bee

If you haven't tried Ambien CR yet, I would try it first. It is an extended release tablet so it might give you 6 to 8 hours of sleep. If that doesn't work I would consider having a sleep study done. You might have a sleep disorder. I had a sleep study done about a year ago. I do not have sleep apnea, just a weird case of insomnia. I saw a neurologist who specializes in sleep medicine. He is the who recommended combining the Ambien CR and Rozerem.

                  Sleep

I use the Costco brand for PM. It helps most of the time.

I tried Ambien and it scared the life out of me. I did things that I didn't recall the next day. If I didn't take it at least 8 hours prior to when I would be active the next morning, I would have no recollection of how I got to work, or what I had done to get to work. I have settled for sleeping less rather than taking the meds.
One thing that has helped is deep breathing from the diaphragm. I never would have thought it would make such a difference. I do it three times a day for five minutes each time. It is amazing. I take in a huge breathe through my nose, expanding my belly, not my chest. Then let it out through my mouth slower than how I took it in.
I tried Lunestra for awhile, but it left a terrible taste in my mouth.

I take Ambien also, mine is 10mg, but I usually can do ok by cutting it in half. I too though have experienced some very strange side effects from it and doing things I don't recall doing, so be careful with it. But sometimes I just need to sleep and that's the only thing that helps me to, so...........

I take the Ambien CR 12.5 mg about twice a week, give or take. In the beginning I did have some patchy memory loss during the hour before I would go to bed along with some visual disturbances. I was desperate enough for some sleep, though, so I kept with it and now I don't have any memory issues at all. Plus, I'm not groggy when I wake up.

I don't want to build up a tolerance or a dependance to it, however, so I keep it to no more than three times a week, if that. Sometimes I only use it once. I also take two valerian capsules each night, and in between ambien nights I take benadryl before I go to bed. I also just started adding one 5-htp capsule a couple of days ago, but the brand we've got also contains some valerian.

Most nights I also do yoga and pt exercises.
