  • Trouble with tampons

Hi guys. Another embarrasing question for you all. In the last year I have gotten really uncomfortable wearing tampons. They will not stay put!!! It seems like I have to keep running to the bathroom to push it back in. And it's uncomfortable when it starts to come out like that. I don't get it!! Could this be that I have too tight pelvic floor muscles or are the muscles too weak? I have never had children so I have no explanation as to why this started happening. I have given up on tampons even though I used to prefer them over pads. I def have IC and am currently trying to get into a pain clinic. My PCP just faxed the referral over today so hopefully I can get an appt soon. I suspect I have PFD as well. Any ideas on this topic???

    Current Rx Meds:
    Atarax, Ditropan, Elmiron
Prior to pregnancy: The above 3 meds PLUS Neurontin, Topamax, Loratadine, continuous OrthoCyclen, Lidocaine Patches PRN, Temazepam PRN, & Vicodin PRN
    Hooray for babies!
Misc. lifesavers: Hot baths, ThermaCare Heat Wraps, Ice Packs. The IC Diet has changed my life.
    Didn't work for me:
Detrol LA, Amitryptiline, Morphine, Percocet, TENS unit, Interferential Pain Stimulator Unit, Hypogastric Plexus Nerve Block
    IC (Mod-Severe) since 1996

UPDATE: 5/21/08 Pregnancy and breastfeeding afterwards have alleviated my IC symptoms more than anything, EVER. Most days are 100% pain free & I now have normal frequency (as long as I take these 3 meds).

    tampons

I have always been too small inside and the last few times I used tampons they were not as in place-the same thing as you I guess-and pressuring the entrance to my vagina. With the vuvodynia the pressure was awful. I think there must have been a weakining of the pelvic muscles. I never thought of this till I read your post. Tampons caused me a yeast infection almost every time I used them even only one time per period. Can't use them and am allergic to almost all maxi pads. Hope this will help!

Especially when my IC was symptomatic I began to have trouble with tampons. I never had before. When IC hit I had to use the smallest size tampons AND had to alternate pads and tampons. That seemed to help.

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

        update

Since my last post on this subject I have used tampons a few times. They weren't as bad a problem when my IC wasn't as bad. I asked my gynecologist if my vagina was shrinking, he was more embarrassed than me ! He said he didn't know anything really about pfd , but I was probably smaller from unuse!!

You just made me laugh really hard. That is too funny. They say you will loose it if you don't use it. Always kinda thought it was a joke...until now!
Luckily, I don't have that problem anymore due to the fact I had a hyster. I used to hate tampons but the alternative wasn't that great either!!

OK, at first I saw LeeAnn was the original poster and didn't realize this post was six months old and it totally freaked me out because she is pregnant. I thought, that crazy girl what is she up to?

Too funny all the way around. Thanks, I am in a terrible flare and needed something to pick me up!
