  • Vaginal Estradiol for Bladder

I’m wondering if anyone has tried vaginal estradiol cream for IC? I’m 64 and had a hysterectomy. Very dry and irritated in vagina as well as bladder. Tried estradiol cream last night and feeling a bit more irritated today. Not sure if this is a treatment others have used as part of their program.

Absolutely, it helped me a lot. Though the cream itself isn't particularly soothing. It's the hormone in it that stimulates the vagina to produce it's own protective mucus layer. If your vagina is already raw, the cream could be irritating, especially at first, and until you start producing that mucus. It didn't take me long to get used to it, just a few days.

For convenience and less mess, I switched to an estrogen ring that stays in for 3 months. That was also a bit uncomfortable at the very beginning. It doesn't bother me at all now that I've got a thick mucus layer in my vagina.

I also use an aloe based lubricant "aloe cadabra" that is immediately soothing for when I'm feeling raw from too many trips to the bathroom or whatever.

There's a video on this site about estrogen decline with good information.

Annabelle thank you so much! This was very helpful. Will give it another go and I like the Aloe Vera idea as well.

Hi, yes. I was prescribed the vaginal estradiol and told by my urologist I will need to use it ongoing. If I stop I will have more issues. I use it 3 times a week. If you buy it on good rx it's less expensive. Good luck

Thank you so much Kathy! I find that it burns a little bit, but maybe I just need to get used to it. The skin is so sensitive in there.
