  • Removal of old Interstim leads

Hi everyone. I have two interstims and the leads are from 2002. But the therapy is not working any more. I tried all different possible settings and for nothing. I will have everything removed on the 24th. I'm so scared, it's almost 19 yrs with the leads, they are anchored to the bone. Has someone have them removed? they are not the tin leads. I have read that they can breaks, what happens then, how can the doctor remove them?
    Need feedback please. THANKS!

      Hi Ale,

Having the generator unit should be fairly easy... it's removing the leads that are challenging. I wish I could give you more insight other than to make sure that you have a clear conversation with the doctor that they should NOT just cut the leads and leave them in place. Ideally, they should remove them. Sometimes that's possible, and sometimes it's not. It's really going to depend upon what he finds when they look at them. Carry hope in your heart. Sounds like they have run their course... and having them removed makes sense. Please let us know how you do.
