  • Mom had interstim trial put in

    Hi,
My mom has super bad OAB, pees about 3 times an hour and has incontinence too, its been a nightmare for her for years. She does not have pain therefore does not have IC but the frequency and urgency issues can often be the same for the two diagnoses. Her bladder problems started following a hysterectomy and only got worse once they took her off oral hormones about 10 years ago. She can't go anywhere without the pads.

She got the interstim trial done last Monday and so far is thrilled with it. It took a few days but she has gone from going every 20 minutes to once every 3 hours. This has taken place in about 5 days.

Just wanted to post a positive result on this procedure and realize she doesn't have pain but maybe some of you who are considering it have the really bad frequency and urgency too.

Still going good, she is going in Friday for the permanant "hookup". Actually its a shorter surgery because the wires are already in place now. She is no longer having accidents and is going about once every 2 hours vs 3 times an hour. Its a "miracle" for her. I hope no complications arise. She had it done at Virgina Mason in Seattle which is one of the best hopitals in the U.S. so I'm optimistic.

Just an update, I posted this somewhere else but wanted to update here:

The trial went so well that my mom had the real implant put in yesterday. I talked to her last night and she said the first surgery is actually longer then the 2nd surgery as much of the work is already done. I think they look for 50% improvement in symptoms but hers were much better then that as she still has gone from 3x an hour to once every 2 hours. Her urge and stress incontinence are gone too. Its truly amazing. I wish it worked this well for everyone.

Again, just wanted to post a success story. I know the success rate for pain is less and she never had pain so I can't really post on this.
