  • I want to die

I was poked and prodded for 2 and 1/2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in so much pain I can't move an inch. I can't feel the stimulation at all, I can only put it on 1.This was the dumbest thing I ever put myself through. They could not find the S3 nerve in me. The pain he put me through was enough to make me wish I was DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He gave me vicodin for home but told me to take it only if I have to.

Kara, your dr is an idiot and he's mean and clueless regarding pain. To torture you for 2 1/2 hrs in incompetence. What kind of dr is he? I hope he is an ANESTHESIOLOGIST. Those are the only ones you want messing with your spinal cord!! And he is an absolute TURD for giving you that useless Vicodin and then telling you take only if you need to. Why did he give it to you in the first place if he was afraid you were going to take it? He is totally ignorant regarding pain response and pain management. Run, Kara, run as fast as you can away from that moron. Find someone who knows what they are doing and someone who respect PATIENTS IN PAIN. I agree with you that the Insterstim was the worst thing I ever did. I had it done on 11/2 and as of today I am still in such excruciating agony. I have suffered permanent damage and there is not one thing I can do about it. All was calm on 11/1. How I wish I could turn back the clock. I can't believe I have to go through the holidays in this agony. I have an ins. mandated uro, so I have no choice and I can never get a hold of him. This is torture. I totally sympathize with what you've been through and your experience. I am so sorry.

                  Hi Kara,

First off, I'm so sorry you had a miserable experience with the trial procedure. It's not easy to make the decision to even go through with the trial let alone the permanent implant. You're very brave.

I'm just curious, was a Medtronic rep there during the procedure. If remember correctly from past posts you're living in Massachusetts. I live on the North Shore area and had my trial and implant done at a hospital in Boston. My experience, fortunately was a positive one. One of me best resources (in addition to this board) was Fred, the Medtronic rep.

We know that this device doesn't always work for everybody, but from your post it sounds as though you had to endure quite a bit more discomfort (putting it mildly) than necessary.

Kara, if you want to vent or ask me any questions please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Sending you healing vibes through cyberspace...

                  Mary

                    Kara

I hope things are a tiny bit better for you today. I too, had a really bad first trial last June....it took 3 hours. But the results were good.

Then I had the implant and the wires some how moved....so I just completed a second trial and again...it hurt me terribly, but was a tiny bit better and shorter than the first one. And I got the good results again (they used an xray machine this time). My doctor and the Medtronic rep said that I am much more sensitive than other patients they have seen...and sounds like you are too. Also, I noticed over the years whenever I had to have a shot in my rear end....it took me months to get over it and my butt was sore for ages. This seems to prove true for us.

The thing to hold out for is hope that the stim will give you some good results. Hang in there and don't give up yet. You may start noticing an improvement and if the first wire does not work...or you cannot feel it...can you switch to a second one? Did they put two in? Take care because we all care. Dede

I am having a stimulator put in, I sure hope I do not have all the pains you had, I feel so bad for you, The Dr. should have given you a stronger pain mead after all you went through.Take care and I am praying for you.

                        Dear Kara23,

As LauraRN said, it sounds like your doctor is ignorant regarding pain management. An important fact to consider is that the incidence of becoming addiced to opioids(narcotics) when using them for pain management is less than one percent.

I hope you find some relief soon and understand that we know what you are going through.
