most peope refer to pain as their spasms and urqency pain. That is what this is refering to.. It took me a long time to under stand this,, yes the interstim help with the urgency pain, its really not misleading as it seems.. Thanks for bringing that up so I could clarify that but in all reality INTERSTIM IS NOT FOR PAIN...

Has anyone experienced relief from the pelvic/hip pain that goes along with i.c. when they had the interstim put in. or does it just help with bladder spasms. I also have a constant burning in the bladder. Does the interstim help with that at all? I'm still gathering info. from other's experience before I decide whether or not to do the trial. I know it is not for pain but my dr. says that some people (not everybody) get some pain control benefit with it. What have you all that have it experienced in this department?

no, I did not get any relief. Infact, I ended up with more pain because after my revision I had more tailbone pain and groin pain than I did before the revision.
You just have to remember to read ALL of the things that "MIGHT" happen because of side effects from this surgery and ask yourself if you would be willing to trade off.............teri

Hi,
InterStim helps a little bit on my bladder spasm. I am not sure if I have pelvic pain. Usually I take a hot bath every other day to ease the muscle spasm around pelvic and I believe hot bath helps a lot.
InterStim doesn't help my bladder pain at all. I tested on acid food, like apple or orange and I still got the terrible pain in the bladder after eating acid food.

Hi everyone,
So glad every one is jumping in to reply... I don't want any one to go into getting the interstim with out the pros and cons, there are things that can happen. I don't want any one to think I am pushing interstim I do have it but this is your choice.
Clinical studies posted on the interstim site

Hi Brat, Do you still get Hydro Distention even though you have the Interstim? and if so can I ask why? Hydro Distention used to help me in the past but the last time, two years ago it did not. Since then I've tried a lot of things, to no avail. So I am trying one more Hyrdro, then the Interstim if no sucess. I was just wondering if the interstim was working for you, why are you doing Hydro? Thanks!! Peggy

My uro said I no longer needed hydros. I don't feel like I need them. He also reviews medical papers for publication (and he would show them to me). There are a lot of studies that show that interstim is helping a lot of people with pain. There is a difference in flare pain from eating acidic food, though. It really can't help with that because its an acid burn issue, not a muscle relaxation issue. The FDA is going to review approving the Interstim for pelvic pain AND for IBS. I heard that from my Medtronic rep--they're expecting that in the next few years. For now, the interstim is NOT intended for pelvic pain. The diagnosis code used for insurance is urgency/frequency. If is helps you with pain, that's great.
