  • Have any of you had a hydrodistention after the interstim?

Ok, I'm having retention AGAIN! I have gone through 2 kidney stones and a dang infection that took 4 different antibotics to get rid of. It has left me in almost total retention again. I am curous, before things got bad with my IC I would have a kidney stone then total retention then they would do a hydro and the retention would leave. I wonder if this would work better than having the implant reprogrammed. I am hesitant to have it reprogrammed because it was programmed perfect and I can still feel the stim in the vagina/anus area. Sooo.... I'm wondering if there is maybe some scarring causing the retention. What do you think? I've got a call in to Dr. Benson now waiting for a reply.

      Hi Rhonda:
So sorry to hear you having this problem..
I know all about kidney stones..
Well I get alot of retention with I have a bladder infection and around my period time..
Have you try a catheter Rhonda , this may help relief the pressure for awhile..
I wish I had more answer for you, but I sure would give it a try ok..
Sending healing thoughts to you and hope the retention goes away real soon !!!
I never had a hydro at all since my Implant...

Rhonda~I had my surgery in Sept 99 and there are still days when I have retention so bad that I have to cath and my uro said that I will probably be like that for the rest of my life. If I take ANY med at all the lists retention as a side effect, I will retain

        Hope that helps some teri

Rhonda, I am basically the same as Teri, and
like Debbie if I have an infection or around period time I start to retain and usually go inot a flare Great Life eah!!! but better than it was last year where I had a Foley cath in just about all the time. Careful when you cath cause tha can cause infection to and if it feels irrated alot get checked for UTI or Bladder infection. I have had bladder infections twice now. So it is the anti biotics and it has its own mind when it is going to leave.(the flare that is) Meanwhile I also take Ativan for cathing as my urethra gets very aggitated and feels like it goes into spasms. It helps.

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling a little better now. You know you think when the interstim is in all your problems are over. I'm now able to go during the day but the nights are still HORRIBLE!!! I'm up close to 10 times a night again and when I put that cath in the spasms and pain are GUT WRENCHING!!! Well, going back to my pp today to have yet another urinaylysis to see if this stupid infection is gone yet ( was on monural, then leviquin twice, bactrim and monural again all within a month and a half!). We're going to try to find some compromise with the pain situation again. You know, I DON'T want to take meds 24/7 because I DON'T NEED them that often but almost everynight I need something. So we'll see what we can come up with.

One thing Dr. Benson told me was that it was important to keep the pain level BELOW the stim level because that's what causes the retention. Some type of brain overload. So I guess we will look into something for that. My thoughts would be something mild like ultram for nightly pains (I can't take tylonal too much, or asprin (due to extremely low platelet levels), and aleve is rough on the stomach) then something for those bad nights such as darvon or such and then a few things maybe the patches or a few percocet for those middle of the night I GOT TO GET TO THE HOSPITAL BUT THE GIRLS ARE ASLEEP times. We've done this before but stopped after I started going to a pain clinic ( which was a disaster). I don't know, I guess we shall see. I was also considering some type of muscle relaxer. Maybe that would help with the spasms. I've been on levbid and other antispasms meds without help but maybe something like that would work better. I notice some people are using them. I have tried the neurtion in connection with oxycontin (WHICH I WILL NEVER,EVER TRY AGAIN) and don't want the side effects of the druggy-sleepness all day. Well, we shall see what he says.

Rhonda, have you tried ativan at night? It has been a miracle drug for me for the night time pee-pee's and spasms......
