  • exercise with interstim

Hi Guys.. I was just wondering if you can still exercise once you have the interstim implanted. I don't do much exercise, but I do like my power walks. Would that be a problem?? Thanks! Celeste

I don't get to exercise much, but I do have to powerwalk alot when I am at work. It doesn't seem to bother anything.

I have 2 interstims....right side in 10/2001 and the left side in 4/2002. These work great for frequency/urgency. Exercise was not an option for me as sitting, standing, and walking bring on terrible pelvic pain which only laying down and using heat will relieve partially. By the end of most days, I am a mess.

However, in early September I started the Yoga for IC patients. The tape is available here and the exercises are designed for us. Still can't do many of the sitting ones, but can do most. After over 2 months I am noticing a difference in my strength. I feel better emotionally. And, my hubby said that he notices a difference in the back of my thighs and butt. This from a guy who has never, over 35 years, made a positive comment about how my body looks. (even when I weighed 30 poounds less for our married life and looked good, but didn't know it at the time. cussing I really hate my old self for not appreciating how good I looked then.)

So, yoga is for me. Hoping that holding the positions will help to reshape this poor old puffy IC body. By the way, yoga is quite a workout!
Positive thoughts and prayers that new treatments for IC will reach all who struggle with this disease,
