Any Help please: Problems with burning at generator site

Hi all, I know I haven't been on here in a while. I was hoping I was all settled, but unfortunately that isn't the case. I had my interstim put in permanently on December 21, 2010. It was like night and day with my frequency, it was great!! I didn't know I could go so long without having to pee.
In late January I got an infection at my site, pus and all. Some antibiotics helped get that gone. Since then my incision site has been unbearably sore. The doctor said the pain should go away in time.
Within the last few weeks I have experienced tingling all over like when your foot falls asleep and its waking back up. That lasted for 3 days straight and then yesterday. For the last week or so the generator area has been burning me. And hurts to even touch or have water run over it. I went back to the doctor today and she said that she wants to do a revision and try to move it to a different spot, to the left side of my back instead of the right small of my back. She says that the surgery should only be @30minutes or so and she would put it in a little deeper. She wants to try to increase my neurontin for 2-3 weeks first and if it doesn't help then she wants to do the surgery. I have been able to feel the generator since it was put in.
Does anyone have any advice? Will this next procedure help or make it worse?

Have you considered a second opinion before going for this surgery? It may be the best thing for you, but a second opinion never hurts.

I agree with Donna. A second opinion is a good idea.
I don't have a stim but my husband does, for intractable back pain. He's never had any problem with the generator site and doesn't feel the generator at all.
Please let us know what happens.

Hi,
My daughter has had three pacemakers.The first pacemaker she had was the wrong machine and causing intense pain at site. (warning to all, get a Dr. that really knows what they are doing. This urologist Dr. put in a Syngerty which is for pain in the trunk.....and much larger than the Interstim....The Syngerty she could really feel, an it actually came out of its pouch and you could see it through the skin. yuk.

The 2 pacemaker a Interstim had to be removed because of site infections about 4 months after it's installation.
That morning she woke up to burning pain hot and red at site, hurt to touch it, the interstim site was infected and they removed it that day. She healed and they put the pacemaker back after 3-4 months on the opposite site. They would not put it back in the same site because of scar tissue and infection, so they waited till she was healed, and put the Interstim on the other side, where her first pacemaker the Syngerty was.

Then she was rear ender pretty hard in the car as she sat at the traffic signal, and the interstim went haywire, and stopped working as well she was peeing every 5 minutes, first the doctor wanted to remove it again but the xray and scan showed it was connected, and we insisted that she get reprogrammed first, this corrected it and she's back to 1-4 hours between peeing. whew....

So, be careful about this infection, she did show inflammation in her blood work and has to go onto a antibiotic for awhile.

Thank you all for your advice. The burning is still happening and CCB, just like your daughter I have had the pain across my tailbone also. I don't know if I mentioned this in my earlier post but I developed an infection at the incision site just a few weeks after surgery. There were two areas that were infected, both ends of the incision site, they had pus coming out of them and were very red. I was given a strong antiobiotic and the infection left. Now I still have the burning, but it isn't red. The frequency is also starting to return. Again thanks for all the help.
