  • Interstim Diary -- One Week with My Permanent Implant

While I am not yet ready to call myself a "Nerve Stimulation Success Story," I am ready to say that it seems the Interstim was a good decision to make so far.

My frequency and urgency is still much better, and even though I still have pain, my life is already easier now that I am not in the bathroom all the time. Being able to sit through entire movies on DVD as well as entire TV shows is a definite benefit, as is being able to sleep for long periods without getting up. I have taken a few quick trips out with my husband to pick up prescriptions and the like too, and I find car trips do not immediately cause that sudden desire to pee that they used to. I was able to go to the pharmacy, the grocery store (very quickly), and the pool & spa store to pick up testing strips for our hot tub -- all without having to use the bathroom until we got home. That is an amazing feat, as on some days prior to Interstim, I would have had to use the restroom at all three stops!

Anyway, at the moment I am still trying be minimally active at home. I do find myself still tired after the surgery (I think two surgeries in as many weeks is pretty draining in itself, and then add my fibromyalgia on top of it and we have a good recipe for fatigue). However, I have been able to take naps during the day since I am home this week. I don't do that much in the way of housework; I have done a few very light loads of laundry and I've loaded and unloaded the dishwasher, but I haven't yet done anything especially difficult -- I am avoiding heavy lifting and things that involve a lot of bending and twisting to try and leave my incision as undisturbed as possible.

So far so good -- it seems to be healing although I am still pretty tender there. Yesterday I seemed extra tender for some reason, but I looked back there and didn't see any changes in the way the surgical area looked. I do have some itching around the area, likely from the adhesive they are using to hold my dressing on, but that's typical for me.

We are having great weather here, so I am planning on sitting outside this afternoon and reading, at least for a while. Think a little fresh air will do me some good!

Only bad thing is that my husband agreed to let my father-in-law stay over this weekend, and I am not up for cleaning the house in prep for houseguests I told him that and said, "Well, I'll run the robot vacuum, make sure there are no dirty dishes in the sink, and try and organize the clutter a bit, but the kitchen floor needs mopping and the stairs need vacuuming (robot doesn't do stairs), and I can't -- so you can do it if you want, but if not, it isn't getting done."

So my FIL is just going to have to put up with a mess. And, I'm not waiting on him when he gets here... he's high maintenance, but he's getting low maintenance care, and that's just too bad!!

            Hi Jen,
I am so happy that you are feeling better. I am praying for pain relief and the frequency and pressure relief. I have my trial one done tomorrow morning.
            Rest, Rest, Rest!
Don't worry yourself about your FIL... if he loves his DIL he will not care about the house and will even help out maybe Think positive!

Thanks for keeping us updated Jen. I remember the first few times that I would be riding in the car and not have to stop to pee! I am soooo happy for ya! Please keep watching that incision and please don't use any energy to get your house "company prepared". You are healing and that takes time even though you feel better, you need to take care of yourself!

Paddington will be glad to have the company!

              Hugs, Tracey

Thanks for the warm words, everyone

Georgia, good luck with your trial. I hope yours goes as smoothly and is as successful as mine was

All I did to get the house prepared was run the Roomba vacuum while I lounged in the recliner reading a magazine... LOL That thing is great. Now I want the Scooba -- the one that scrubs kitchen/bathroom floors -- for my birthday ... LMAO
